Yesterday, Eric Holder testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee. His testimony covered a variety of topics, but everybody there knew the major issue was Fast and Furious. Here we have a Justice Department enmeshed in an operation whereby ATF agents in Phoenix conducted surveillance as known Mexican cartel straw purchasers bought weapons from gun dealers who were cooperating with the agency. Instead of interdicting the guns and arresting the dealers, the guns were allowed to disappear into the sunset (of Mexico), where they ended up in the hands of drug cartels. These guns were later recovered at crime scenes involving the murders of some 200 Mexicans and two American federal agents. Now the DOJ is attempting to cover up their own role in the operation and lay it off on subordinates and low-level ATF agents.
Yet, in the midst of hard questions from the Republicans, the Democrats on the committee don't even seem to be interested in the scandal that has involved the deaths of two US agents.

Amazing. Senators Leahy and Feinstein want to use this case to call for stricter gun control. (After all, this was the ultimate goal of the politicos in Justice who ran this operation.) Feinstein and Schumer wanted to link Fast and Furious to a Bush-era operation called Wide Receiver, in which guns were simply lost from surveillance. Leahy wanted to know if DOJ paid 16 dollars per muffin at some DOJ conference. (Actually, he wanted to put that charge to rest and he gave Holder an opportunity to do so.) And Al Franken's main concern was anti-Gay bullying enforcement. It boggles the imagination.

You won't hear about this on MSNBC as they breathlessly report all the tawdry details of the Herman Cain accusations and pronounce him guilty as charged. Apparently, as talking heads like Ed "Butter and Egg Man" Schultz did their shows live from the Occupy Wall Street protests, a bunch of real sexual predators were doing their thing a few feet away all under the eyes of an MSNBC film crew.

Today's Cain Update: We Still Don't Know the Truth
Now that a new woman has latched onto Gloria Allred and made her charges, and Herman Cain has come out and vigorously denied her charges, we are still back to square one. We don't know the truth.
In the case of Gloria Allred's client, she has no corroboration. There was no third party witness who can substantiate her charges. She has waited until now over a decade to make her charges public. Cain says it's not true. He doesn't even recall the woman by name or appearance. I could add that the woman in question, in addtion to associating herself with Gloria Allred, comes across as flippant, giddy, or whatever adjective you prefer. Does that mean she is fabricating her story? No. We just don't know. Her charge is unsubstantiated.
As for the other women, it seems that what is crucial is that witnesses to the stories of Cain's improper behavior come forward. One man says he saw it happen. Put it on the record. Make a sworn deposition.
One possible solution might be that the accuser(s) take a polygraph test. If they pass it, then let Cain take a polygraph. (I know. That leads to the argument of how reliable polygraph tests are and who administers them.)
At this point, many people are forming their opinions, as I am. Yet, to be fair, they are just opinions. The smoking gun has not yet come out. If the accusations against Cain are factual, I don't want him to be president. At the same time, I want him to get fair treatment.

Holder's Latest Denials

I was not able to actually watch Eric Holder's testimony before Congress this morning other than a few minutes when Senator Pat Leahy (pictured below) was diverting attention away from Fast and Furious with some pathetic questions designed to clear up some report that a DOJ conference had spent money on "16-dollar muffins".
Of course, Leahy is the protector on the panel who is pressing for the Fast and Furious investigation to delve into an ATF operation conducted under the Bush administration. He reminds me of another senator named Pat Geary in Godfather II.
Anyway, here is a preliminary Fox report on Holder's testimony, in which he claims that the Fast and Furious operation had no direct connection to the death of Agent Brian Terry (except for the fact that agent Terry was killed by weapons traced back top Fast and Furious purchases.)

But details of "Fast and Furious" and similar investigations under the Bush administration have since come to light that reveal otherwise. Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, the ranking member on the panel, said "mounting evidence" in the months since the letter has "put the lie" to Justice Department claims.
The information in the letter was "inaccurate," Holder said, adding, "I regret that."
Inaccurate?? It was a total lie.
"Holder said the Justice Department in Washington was "relying" on information provided by "people we thought in the best position to know," namely officials with the U.S. Attorney's Office and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in Arizona."
That's right, Holder. Blame the agents in Phoenix. That's the party line. Protect the political bosses in DOJ. I will repeat: Nobody at the ATF level in Phoenix could have dreamed this plan up and even if they had, it would have required approval at the highest levels of Justice. But Holder never knew. He never even received all those memos to him during 2010.
"While Holder asked for a retreat from "headline-grabbing Washington 'gotcha' games and cynical political point scoring," he said he did not mislead Congress in May over when he first heard of "Fast and Furious."
Holder said he first learned about tactics and the phrase "Operation Fast and Furious" beginning this year when it became a matter of public controversy.
"In my testimony I did say a few weeks, I probably could have said a couple of months," Holder said. "The focus of which day on which month is a bit of distraction (and) does nothing to address what concerns us most" -- the flow of guns, Holder said.
Later at the same hearing, in response to a follow-up question, Holder said he was probably aware of the operation at least six weeks earlier, by the time President Obama talked about it with a Spanish-language media outlet in late March."
Nonsense. He was getting memos on this in 2010. It began in 2009. As I said before, this boffo operation could only have been concocted by someone in Washington and approved at the highest levels. No professional law enforcement agent would have dreamed up this scheme. They knew that their job was to interdict guns and put violators in jail. This was blatantly political.
"Last month, Grassley distributed five memos addressed to Holder in July and August 2010, citing the gunrunning investigation by name. Nearly a year after those heavily redacted memos were sent, the attorney general in May told lawmakers under oath he "probably heard about 'Fast and Furious' for the first time over the last few weeks."
Never got those memos, says Holder.
"In his opening remarks, Grassley noted that in January -- the month after Terry was killed -- he handed Holder two letters mentioning "numerous allegations" from whistleblowers "that the ATF sanctioned the sale of hundreds of assault weapons to suspected straw purchasers" and "two of the weapons were then allegedly used in a firefight … killing CBP Agent Brian Terry."
Did he never get those either? Grassley gave them to him personally. That's January 2011. Now Holder is saying that he heard about Fast and Furious in late March 2011-or was it February 2011?

Belgium: Anti-Semitism and Union Thugs
It looks like Belgium also has union bullies. I thought we were the only country with that problem. Of course, Belgium also has its share of anti-Semitism. That's why a union leader is threatening to "take action" against Jewish schools because of Israeli settlements. The below article is from the Coordination Forum for Countering Anti-Semitism. It Was Inevitable: Here Comes Gloria Allred
Like death and taxes, the ubiquitous LA attorney Gloria Allred has jumped into the middle of the Herman Cain mess. She is representing a 4th woman who says she was sexually harassed by Herman Cain. (Hat tip Daily Caller)
Without debating the merits of this latest woman's claims, it sure is tiresome that we have ambulance chasers like Gloria Allred ready to hold a press conference every time some high-profile guy gets in the middle of one of these harassment issues.
