Op-Ed in SF Chronicle Re: Hate at SFSU

Hat tip Campus Watch

Richie Greenberg, a candidate for the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, has written a stinging editorial on the hateful, anti-Semitic  situation at San Francisco State University. I am cross-posting it as I am fully aware of the players in this sordid mess.

I will be traveling from October 24-31. Thus, there will be little or no activity on this blog during this time.

Brandeis Report on Campus Anti-Semitism

Hat tip Barry

"One of the strongest predictors of perceiving a hostile climate toward Israel and Jews is the presence of an active Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) group on campus."

The Maurice and Marilyn Cohen Center for Modern Jewish Studies at Brandeis University has published a study on campus anti-Semitism in the US. Not surprisingly several California campuses are listed as hot spots. The report is based on a survey of Jewish students at many US universities. The results are reported in a series of graph charts.

Hitler Learns the Cubs Have Won the Pennant (By Fousesquawk)

"Higher Ground" The UC Irvine Report on Anti-Semitism

UC Irvine has come out with a statement on anti-Semitism on its campus as part of its compliance with the UC Regents' (2016) Statement of Principles Against Intolerance. The report is authored by Douglas Haynes of the UCI Office of Equity Diversity and Inclusion.

http://inclusion.uci.edu/2016/10/21/higher-ground/

While I am gratified that UCI is recognizing the problem after many years of denial, and I am pleased that they mention the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as a factor, I do have certain critiques of the statement. For one, vagueness serves nobody. The culprits are never mentioned. Anti-Semitism on UCI's campus comes to us via the Muslim Students Union/Students for Justice in Palestine and their invited speakers. That is not to blame all Muslim students, all MSU members, or even all of their invited speakers. It should be added that a few SJP members are Jews themselves, and some of the invited speakers who have come to campus to attack Israel are Jews themselves. That doesn't change the responsibility of the above two organizations in fostering a hostile campus climate for Jewish students.

I also take exception to listing the Olive Tree Initiative, Hillel, and the Jewish Federation (and its Rose Project) as being somehow part of the solution. They have been part of the problem.

The OTI has been nothing more than a thinly-disguised attempt to sway Jewish participants to the Palestinian narrative. By that I mean that the trips are tilted toward supporting the Palestinian side  at the expense of the Israeli side. Indeed, the West Bank tour guides with whom OTI has partnered are co-founders and operatives of the International Solidarity Movement (George S Rishmawi and George N Rishmawi among others). In 2009, OTI actually met with a Hamas official (Aziz Dweik) in the West Bank. Students were reportedly warned not to mention it.

As for Hillel and the Jewish Federation of Orange County, for years they have fought every attempt to inform the Jewish community of the problem of anti-Semitism on campus even to the point of attacking Jewish community members  and Jewish students who have spoken out. I can cite pages and pages of chapter and verse in that regard. It has been well-documented here on Fousesquawk.

I also take exception to the mention of law school dean Erwin Chemerinky's name here as if he is somehow part of the solution. Even before he came to UCI, he was denying that anti-Semitism existed on campus and has continued to do so. In addition, during the well reported May 18 incident on campus where a Jewish/pro-Israel meeting was loudly disrupted by SJP and others, there was participation by so-called "legal observers" from the radical National Lawyers Guild who were attached to the UCI law school. As far as we know, UCI has never addressed that problem, nor has Chemerinksy been called to account or ever given a statement, which I have called on him to do multiple times.

In addition, UCI still has not addressed the fact that (according to NLG's own statement) after the May 18 event was over, they (NLG observers) "accompanied the protesters as they marched back to the Cross Cultural Center". For years, anti-Israel demonstrators who have disrupted pro-Israel events have used the CCC as a staging area. I have complained to UCI about this practice in writing and met with the former head of CCC all to no avail.

"In cases where sponsors or events have targeted groups, the chancellor or other campus representatives have publicly criticized constitutionally protected speech or other activities."

I am only  aware of one time the administration publicly criticized what an MSU-invited speaker said on campus even though it was a case of free speech. That was in May 2010 when Amir Abdel Malik Ali spoke at UCI and (in my presence) stated that he supported Hamas, Hizbollah, and Islamic Jihad as well as "jihad on campus ("as long as it is speaking truth to power"). That drew a rebuke from then-chancellor Michael Drake a couple of days letter. However, he never named the speaker, the event, what was said, who the offended group was, or who the sponsoring group was. What good did that do?

In short, this report does not go far enough-not by a long shot. Expulsions and the banning of the brown shirt SJP from campus is what is needed for a start.

Is There an Even Bigger Project Veritas Video Coming Out?

Hat tip Twitchy

Image result for hillary clinton talking to somebody
"Yeah, I gave the orders to shut down that Trump rally in Chicago. That guy Fovel works for me. I also personally destroyed my emails. Benghazi? I knew all along it was a bunch of terrorists. I told Obama not to send in the military. And if your pal wants that contract, tell him to kick in 10 million bucks to the Clinton Foundation plus a 6-figure speech for Bill."

(The lady on the right is an undercover operative for James O'Keefe and she's wearing a wire.)

OK, OK, but wouldn't it be great?

Maybe I am grasping at straws with less than three weeks left till election day, but here is something about those Project Veritas videos. The next release may point the finger directly at Hillary Clinton.

http://twitchy.com/dougp-3137/2016/10/22/hrc-was-personally-involved-james-okeefe-interrupts-trumps-gettysburg-speech-for-heads-up-about-upcoming-vid/

To be realistic, I seriously doubt that PV's undercover operatives have gotten next to Hillary and have her on tape telling them, "Yeah, Chicago was my deal. I gave the orders". Most likely they have somebody telling them Hillary is behind what they do in inciting problems at Trump rallies.

What is truly needed is something with Hillary's actual fingerprints on it either about Benghazi, the emails or disrupting Trump's rallies. It has to be something like the Nixon Oval Office tape that sunk him.

Midwestern Universities Now Emulating UC Santa Cruz

Hat tip The College Fix

At UC Santa Cruz, the home of the Banana Slugs, they have an entire department (Community Studies) devoted to training the little rascals how to be community organizers and protesters. Now some universities in the Midwest are trying to emulate America's Wackiest University.

http://www.thecollegefix.com/post/29577/

Now what could make more sense than spending Mommy and Daddy's tuition $$$ than taking courses like these?

On second thought, community organizers now go on to become president, don't they?

Friday Prayers in Rome Move to the Colisseum

Hundreds of Muslims in Rome decided to hold their Friday prayers outside the Colisseum to lobby for the right to build more mosques.

This is not a demonstration of piety. What this is is a demonstration that "We are here, and we are taking over". And indeed they are.

Rape in Sweden Is Almost Legal

Hat tip Gates of Vienna

Image result for torn swedish flag

What other conclusion can you come to about the rape capital of Europe (Sweden) when you read about this case. Three immigrants from Eritrea gang rape a Swedish woman. After an incomprehensible sentence of four years The courts free them with incomprehensible reasoning and one of the rapists is being recompensed 140,000 kronors for his pain and suffering.

http://gatesofvienna.net/2016/10/culture-enriching-rapist-freed-on-appeal-sues-the-swedish-state/#more-41200

The incomprehensible Swedes. Maybe if I watch a few more Ingmar Bergman movies I will begin to understand the mentality.

"Let's invite the Syrians over for dinner."

The student government at UC Irvine is playing house again. Now they have passed a resolution calling on UCI to give free scholarships to Syrian refugees. The College Republicans (one of the best CR chapters in the US) criticized the move.

Given what is going on with student governments around the country, I wonder if the concept is really a good idea. When did they ever make up their minds that the inmates run the institution?

Did Hillary Melt Down After Matt Lauer's Town Hall?

Bill Still has produced this video based on an email he received from someone within Castcom (NBC Universal's parent company). It claims that after the Matt Lauer-hosted townhall with Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, Clinton had a massive meltdown once off-stage because she was expected a different question from Lauer than what he asked. Clinton also reportedly exploded at Donna Brazile, who is now at the center of  controversy surrounding reports she forwarded a debate question to Clinton that she had allegedly received from Roland Martin.

If Lauer thinks the public has a right to know the answers to his hard questions to Mrs Clinton, and if he has knowledge of this incident either directly or indirectly, don't the American people have a right to know from Lauer?

Why Are the Europeans Tolerating Anti-Semitism?

Hat tip Arutz Sheva and The Israeli Group

The below report by Janet Levy is yet another depressing picture of Europe's acceptance of anti-Semitism by its Muslim immigrants while cracking down on any critical expressions of the increasing Muslim presence. It makes no sense, but this is the reality in Europe. The below report focuses on Germany.

http://www.israelnationalnews.com/Articles/Article.aspx/19649

Maybe someone should point out to the Europeans that when the last remaining Jews are gone-and they will leave- there will be nobody for the Muslims to go after but the Christians. It matters not if they are secular or atheist. They are next.

US Islamists Favor Hillary

"Something stinks"

If you are wondering which presidential candidate is getting the most donations from US-based Islamist groups, wonder know more. The Middle East Forum has the answer. It's Hillary Clinton-by a wide margin.

http://www.meforum.org/6333/hillary-clinton-tops-2015-2016-islamist-money-list

On a related note, On October 23, none other than CAIR will be holding a voter registration seminar at UC Irvine, sponsored by the Muslim Student Union. Naturally, they are charging admission ($40) which means it's also a fund raiser.

http://us4.campaign-archive2.com/?u=ff2677122d1f429e0db1748a2&id=f80342fb39&e=57814ad7ac

I am not a lawyer but here is my question: Since UCI is a public university, is it proper for them to host an event which may run afoul of the Establishment Clause-I mean a religious-based group holding a political event. Given the Middle East Forum's post above, I think it is  safe to assume the people putting on this show favor one particular candidate-Hillary Clinton.

Now a few words about one of the speakers, Zaid Shakir of Zaytuna College, a Muslim college actually based at UC Berkeley (or a couple of blocks outside of UCB to be more precise). Shakir is regarded by many as a moderate, as if one who is associated with Zaytuna co-founder Hatem Bazian could ever be a moderate. However, Shakir is on record having made a number of controversial statements about 9-11, condemnation of the US and its military as well as the supremacy of Islam. Below is a report on Shakir by the Investigative Project on Terrorism.

http://www.investigativeproject.org/documents/misc/501.pdf

In a word, I think this event stinks, but would UCI ever say no to the MSU or CAIR?

Meanwhile in Germany's Refugee Camps

                                                       "What could possibly go wrong?"

Angela Merkel's great experiment is exploding in her face. Not only are the Germans ruining their country with all these migrants, refugees and asylum seekers, they don't even bother to place Muslims and Christians in separate camps. The result? Christians are being assaulted right and left in the camps.

Germany has not seen such insanity since you-know-who was in charge.

John Podesta's Vision of Voter ID

Hat tip Barry

Here is another in a series of Wikileaks documents hacked from John Podesta's emails. This one especially reveals the Clinton campaign thinking on getting out the vote. Keep in mind as you read Podesta's comments that many states are providing drivers licenses to illegal aliens including California.

"the one thing I have thought of in that space is that if you show up on Election Day with a drivers license with a picture, attest that you are a citizen, you have a right to vote in Federal elections." - John Podesta, Feb 3, 2015

No, Mr Podesta, even if you are a citizen you still must be registered to vote. A drivers license is not evidence of citizenship. Combine that with the Project Veritas revelations and this looks like clear evidence that the Clinton campaign is all in for voter fraud.

Muhanad Badawi Sentenced to 30 Years in Prison For Recruiting for ISIS

muhanad-badawi-isis
Muhanad Badawi
"Heigh ho, heigh ho
It's off to jail I go"

An Orange County man originally from Sudan was sentenced to 30 years in prison for recruiting at least one man to join ISIS.

https://creepingsharia.wordpress.com/2016/10/20/california-muslim-immigrant-from-sudan-gets-30-years-for-trying-to-help-isis/

Interestingly, the judge, David Carter, who had already sentenced Badawi's co-defendant, Nader Elzuhayel, to 30 years in prison, had delayed Badawi's sentencing for a few days because for some reason he was undecided on Badawi's role. After reviewing evidence that showed Badawi had in fact acted as a recruiter for the other defendant, Badawi was given his sentence. One can only wonder why the judge had not examined all the evidence in the first instance.

The "Quid Pro Quo" Email Was About Benghazi

Hat tip Breitbart

According to an FBI investigative report (form 302), Undersecretary of State Patrick Kennedy tried to make a deal with an FBI agent that would involved the declassification of one of Hillary Clinton's communications in exchange for the FBI getting additional slots in countries where they had had no previous presence. It is revealed that this communication involved the identification of suspects in the Benghazi attack. Such material would have to be classified.

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2016/10/20/clinton-server-email-at-heart-quid-pro-quo-controversy-contained-benghazi-intel.html

Keep in mind that just days ago, President Obama himself publicly disputed the allegation in the FBI report. Think of that. The president of the United States says that what an FBI agent put in an official investigative report is "just not true".

It is time to bring in the relevant FBI agent(s) to a congressional committee and ask them about it under oath-as well as Mr Kennedy.

The Perversion of Academics

In the below-linked article, Richard Cravatts of Scholars for Peace in the Middle East describes how college course (principally, but not limited to) California have been perverted by political agenda on the part of the teachers. Many of the people named in this article I happen to be familiar with.

http://spme.org/campus-news-climate/perverting-college-coursework-conform-ideology/23291/?utm_source=wysija&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Latest-Hotspots-Campus

It is obvious on its surface that what is going on within the University of California violates its own UC Regents Policy on Course Content, which basically says that the classroom is not the appropriate place for teachers to advance political agendas. As exhibited by the one-credit, student taught course at UC Berkeley, that policy is being violated regularly.

But let's talk about some of the people mentioned in this article. I will highlight the ones with whom I have had personal experience at UC Irvine or other UC campuses.

First, Hatem Bazian. Any discussion of how the University of California at Berkeley has been perverted by personal political agendas must begin with Bazian. This character has two agendas; Islamophobia and Israel. In addition to being a co-founder of the brown shirt Students for Justice in Palestine, he has also co-founded American Muslims for Palestine, a dubious advocacy group if there ever was one. He is also co-founder of Zaytuna (Muslim) College, located in a non-descript brick building a couple of blocks off the campus and the Islamophobia Research and Documentation Center, which occupies a broom closet in Barrows Hall (Room 638). I have heard him speak three times, twice at UCI. On the first occasion (2010), I tried to get him to confirm the quote in the above article reciting the hadith about Jews hiding behind trees on the Day of Judgement. He skirted the question and never really answered it, kind of like Hillary Clinton might do in answer to a hostile question. I also asked him about the statement he reportedly made to a college crowd that they should go and count the number of campus buildings with Jewish names on them. Again, an evasive answer. Of course, his statement in 2004 about calling for an intifada in America is documented on videotape.

The University of California has many many left-wing professors teaching on its campuses, but I can think of not one who has brought more embarrassment to UC and UCB in particular than Hatem Bazian.

David Lloyd, an English professor at UC Riverside and leading BDS advocate, is also mentioned. I encountered Dr Lloyd in 2014 when he hosted BDS co-founder Omar Barghouti at UC Riverside. It was the second time I had seen Barghouti speak. The first time, 2013 at  UCI, he refused to answer my question of where he was  born saying it was "irrelevant". It was relevant because Barghouti claims to be a Palestinian (He resides in the West Bank) but was reportedly born in Qatar and raised in Egypt. He received his higher education at Tel Aviv University, which caused a lot of anger there since he works to destroy Israel. You can access the UCI video here.

When Barghouti spoke at Riverside, during the q and a, I commented that he was not born in the area he calls home and asked the organizers of his appearance if they would bring in any pro-Israel speakers  so that there students might get both perspectives of the Israeli-Palestinian issue. Lloyd termed the question, "preposterous". Barghouti asked in response, "Why shouldn't I get my education in my own country?" (which makes his birth and where he grew up a relevant question). You can access the 2014 video here.

It is Omar Barghouti and David Lloyd who are preposterous.

Then there is Jeff Halper, born in the US, an archaeologist who moved to Israel and travels the world trashing his adopted country. In 2011, this crackpot spoke twice in one day at UCI on behalf of Professor Chuck O'Connell, another academic warrior against Israel. I attended both sessions the afternoon session in O'Connell's class and the second in a meeting hall on campus.

By the way; who is Chuck O'Connell you ask?

You don't wanna know.

But back to Jeff Halper. Why do I call him a crackpot? Here is why: During the evening session (in which Dr O'Connell's students reportedly were given extra credit for attending), Halper told us about something called "spectral dust". You see, spectral dust is a substance possessed by the Israel Army (according to Halper) that when programmed with a specific person's DNA and spread out into a target area will seek out that person and kill him.

                                                                                                "That's right."

Imagine if that weapon were given to the US, Dr Halper asked his enthralled audience. In the q and a, I told him that sounded like a crackpot theory. That is why I call Halper a crackpot, and I am not talking behind his back.

So there you have a little more background on some of the characters mentioned in Dr Cravatt's article. It is for lack of a better phrase, a real cast of characters. And this is who is teaching our children.

Last Night's Debate

One good thing about belonging to a health club is that you can watch both CNN and Fox News while doing the treadmill. That enabled me today to compare how the two networks were analyzing the debate last night between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.

I watched the debate myself interspersed with the Cubs- Dodgers game. The fact that the Cubs won easily  enabled me to watch more of the debate.

Most of the observers seemed to think that Trump had his best debate last night, but even conservatives cringed over his answer to Chris Wallace's question over whether he would accept the results of the election should he lose. They also  cringed over his gratuitous remark while Clinton was speaking: "Such a nasty woman". In my mind that is true, but it wasn't the time or place.

Anyway, the headline last night and today was Trump's remark over accepting the results. In his mind, I am sure he was thinking about all the garbage that is coming out about the Clinton campaign from Wikileaks and Project Veritas (the latter of which is being all but ignored by the mainstream media including our local Orange County Register). Clinton herself said she was "horrified" by his answer.

Was she horrified by Al Gore in 2000 when he and his campaign and legal team kept America waiting for five weeks to learn who our president would be? Of course not.

That's where my gym comes in. This morning, Fox was running Trump's speech today in Delaware, Ohio as he laid out his policies about the economy, border security, immigration etc. It was a good speech from a conservative point of view. CNN on the other hand, was highlighting the one part of his speech in which he explained his answer about accepting the results of the election should he lose. Their by-line ticker read, "Trump will accept results if he wins".

This, of course, was the hapless Wolf Blitzer's The Situation Room, in which his liberal panel included Gloria Borger and Dana Bash, both of whom rushed to defend Al  Gore when he didn't accept the results in Florida.

"That was different." Sure.

But Trump, while giving a pretty good performance last night, gave his enemies ammunition as if he would mobilize an army and march on the capital if he doesn't win in November. Did Trump articulate his reasoning? As usual, no. That's one thing that frustrates me about him.

I was hoping that when Hillary was lamely defending the Clinton Foundation and quoting Haiti as a shining example, Trump would have hit her with all the missing millions of dollars that went through the Clinton Foundation to rebuild Haiti after their earthquake. He could have also asked her about reports that her brother, Tony Rodham, won a gold mine deal in Haiti as part of the "reconstruction effort" by the Clinton Global Initiative.

I also wished that Trump would have thrown in something about Kathy Shelton when Hillary was prattling on about her great legal work for the  Children's Defense Fund. Shelton was the 12-year-old girl whose rapist Clinton got off while working as a lawyer in Arkansas.

Finally, I think most agree that Chris Wallace did a very good job last night and did Fox proud. He did let Trump talk over him at times, but all in all, I think it was fair and balanced.

Is UC Davis Safe for Jews?

Hat tip JWeekly and Pro-Israel Bay Bloggers

A swastika is painted on a UC Davis-affiliated Jewish fraternity house.
UC Davis Jewish fraternity house 2015
"One hundred percent safe for Jews"

I picked up this link from a reader thread on Pro-Israel Bay Bloggers. It concerns an op-ed in JWeekly by UC Davis Professor Diane Wolf, who is also an official of the campus Hillel chapter, which is what they call an "open" Hillel, which means they admit Jewish students who may be active opponents of the state of Israel. The thesis of the op-ed is that UC Davis is absolutely safe for Jewish students.

http://www.jweekly.com/article/full/78613/opinions-is-campus-safe-for-your-kids-yes/comment/

In response to this op-ed, I submitted the following to the reader thread:

I don’t call any campus that experiences swastikas twice in the span of a year to be safe for Jews.
As a part-time teacher at UC Irvine since 1998 (and a gentile), I have personally seen and heard the expressions of anti-Semitism from the mouths of invited speakers like Amir Abdul Malik Ali, Amin Abdul Musa, Mohammad al Asi and others.

The entire UC system is infected with this virus, and the administrators, Chancellors, vice chancellors and President Napolitano will not confront it due to political correctness.

In addition, in Orange County, our efforts to expose the problem on campus has been fought at every turn by Hillel and the local Jewish Federation. Like Dr Wolf, they say “Jewish life is thriving”. Not when the annual I-Fest celebrations of Israel are always disrupted by SJP, MSU and their allies. Not when a Israeli film event on May 18 was disrupted by SJP et al. No real action was taken even though campus police had to be called.
One day, we are going to have a tragedy on one of our college campuses. The words of an (open) Hillel official are not reassuring.

Unborn Lives Don't Matter at DePaul (Catholic) University)

Hat tip The College Fix

Yes, the world is truly upside down these days. Take DePaul University, for example, where President Dennis Holtschneider prohibited the College Republicans from putting up a poster that read, "Unborn Lives Matter". Seems that weeny Holtschneider was afraid it might offend the Black Lives Matter crowd.

http://www.thecollegefix.com/post/29560/

Holtschneider, of course, has embarrassed himself in the past. From the Milo Yiannopulos episode to Holtschneider comparing his student brats to the American troops who landed at Normandy, this guy has really brought discredit to what is supposed to be a Catholic university.

Say, whatever happened to his resignation, anyway?

“We want to give students the opportunity to follow the most creative and personalized path toward knowledge possible … [and] to help them engage the complex issues related to the Middle East with reason and civility, to speak freely and honestly about very difficult subjects in a spirit of open discourse,” says UCI history professor Mark LeVine, director of global Middle East studies.

It looks like UC Irvine will follow in the footsteps of establishing a Middle East studies department in the mold of UCLA's Center for Near Eastern Studies-that is- pro-Arab, post colonialist, and anti-Israel. They couldn't have chosen a better person to lead it than Marc LeVine, a UCI professor (who blew up at me because I called him an anti-Israel activist) in the classic mold of other "academic luminaries" such as Hatem Bazian, Theo Goldberg, James Gelvin, David Lloyd, Gabriel Piterberg and other UC professors dedicated to pushing the Palestinian narrative.

https://news.uci.edu/feature/a-major-innovation/

"We believe we’ve designed a program that will provide students with a unique level of preparation for graduate study or work in a variety of fields in a manner not possible in programs of study located in individual disciplines or narrowly bounded regions"

The only thing this will prepare students to do is hold those annual Israel apartheid events every May.

"GMES is, in fact, the first truly interdisciplinary and interschool major at UCI, so our hope is that it breaks ground for similarly eclectic and broad majors to be developed that bring together the humanities, social sciences, hard sciences and arts and, in the process, shatter the isolation that still inhibits collaboration by colleagues across the campus."

                                                                                           "Eclectic"

Q:" Do you think GMES is a model for other majors?"

A: "Yes, it is, especially those involving medicine and sciences such as engineering and hydrology."

A model for medicine and engineering?
 Sure, Mark.

I wonder if this new department is getting any funding from the Saudis or Qataris.
