The View From Pakistan

A colleague has sent me a column written by someone named Mujahid Kamal Mir for the Daily Times of Pakistan. Mr Mir doesn't understand our concepts of freedom of speech in America.

Of course, Mir doesn't understand. He lives in Pakistan, a failed, Third World cesspool that has the death penalty for blasphemy, persecutes Christians, hid Usama bin Laden, but has no control over that paradise called Waziristan, where the Taliban and al Qaeda roam (to borrow a phrase from "Home on the Range").  I was actually in Pakistan once. Flying from Bangkok to New York in the 1970s, our plane landed to refuel in Karachi. I wisely stayed on the plane. Haven't been back since.

Of course, Pakistan has joined the party over that dumb video that someone who happens to be a Coptic Christian from Egypt produced. Notice how Mir ever so subtly fans the flames of hate against Egypt's Copts.

"Whether sanity prevails in the west and saner heads make the general public understand....."

Saner heads in Pakistan.

Also note the subtle threat to those in the West who "love their children".

Mir also has his facts wrong. Eric Allen Bell had nothing to do with that video nor its producers.

Of course, one could respond to this by taking to the streets here in America, rioting, burning, and killing while shouting, "Death to Pakistan!" The fact is, however, that we are too civilized to do that. We simply do arcane things like grant equality to our Muslim citizens.

Besides, how can one kill a country that is already dead?
