The British paper Daily Mail has a report on news out of Arizona (Why is it we have to learn this from a British paper?) concerning an Iraqi immigrant mother charged for beating her 19-year-old daughter and padlocking her to a bed because she was seen speaking to a young man. That, the woman told police, "violated her culture". Arizona had just concluded legal proceedings against an Iraqi father who killed his daughter in a so-called honor killing.

Just another incident to keep in mind the next time some religious or elected leader tries to convince you that Sharia law is perfectly compatible with our own laws and Constitution. It is not.
It goes without saying that killing daughters, beating them, and padlocking them to a bed because they were seen talking to someone of the opposite sex is against OUR culture. It is cases like these where multi-culturalism has to stop and assimilation to American values begins. If certain immigrants can't accept that as part of coming to this country, then they need to return to where they came from-in this case Iraq, the country we liberated from Saddam Hussain so Sunnis can kill Shia and both can kill Christians.

Interesting that the British newspaper actually identified the mother as Muslim, where here our oh so PC media force us to speculate what kind of people have a belief system that condones this kind of barbaric action.
In case after case, we see defiance of the host culture to maintain the one they are drenched in. Generally, with certain exceptions, the Muslims are foreign and alien in every sense.

Thank you for your comment. First of all, here in the US, we do not have state-funded religious schools because we have separation of church and state, which you probably do not agree with.
It seems that since you immigrated to the UK from Pakistan, you have been a pest to your adopted country for 30-40 years.
It also seems you have little regard for the ways and customs of the West, which you have criticized. It is true that we tolerate things that we do not approve of and would not want our children involved in. However, it is the price of our freedom.
You see, immigration should also involve assimilation into the society you have chosen to move to. It means your children and grandchildren will adopt the new language, and eventually, the old language will disappear. (I am married to a Mexican immigrant here in the US and speak with some degree of authority.)
It also means that with our freedom of religion here in the US, your children and grandchildren may eventually decide to change religions or abandon religion altogether. That is a crucial freedom that we enjoy and will not surrender. It also means that your granddaughter or great grandaughter may decide to marry outside of the faith or outside of her race. You may not like it, but under our laws, if she is of age, she has the right to do so.
In our societies, we will not allow these people to be subjected to honor killings or anything resembling it.
All in all, Sir, your writing reveals an attitude that Western society must agree to the demands of your religion. You have demanded that schools with majority Muslim students should be given over to Muslim administration and non-Muslims removed from those schools. I believe you have also spoken in defense of female circumcision.
In short, Sir, you are out of line with Western culture, which you admittedly don't like. It can only lead to one suggestion-why don't you go back to Pakistan and enjoy your Ismamic society?
So, what is your point Gary? That the courts of Arizona are dismissing the prosecution of this woman, on the grounds that she was abiding by her culture?
Oh, good, from your urgent tone I thought something like that might have happened.
When I was in elementary school, I read a number of short stories from books meant to teach about American Democracy. They included episodes about German and east-European fathers who thought they could beat their daughters or choose their husbands and marry them off, who said "I raise her up strict." They too were just being obedient to their old country culture.
It happens with every wave of immigration. The most criminal incidents are prosecuted, the children drift into American culture despite the parents, the grandchildren even more so. What's new?
Incidentally, while I don't agree with everything Iftikhar says, it doesn't sound much different than the demands made by the Roman Catholic Church for state support of Roman Catholic parochial schools. For the most part we have avoided that, but there have been some breaches.
There are some in the U.S., who are not Muslim, who assert that boys and girls advance academically if educated separately. I suspect that this is true for SOME boys and SOME girls, and it probably doesn't break down neatly by religion or ethnicity. We need a lot of options.
Where I disagree most with Iftikhar is the notion that because children are born to Muslim parents, those children can ONLY do well in a Muslim school. No matter who a child's parents are, sooner or later the child is going to find out for themselves what is best for them.
In the USA, churches can run their own parochial schools. For states to try to forbid this was ruled unconstitutional in the 1920s (Pierce v. Society of Sisters). But, states may, and do, inspect the schools, enforce standards of instruction in required topics, including a basic civics curriculum about the country in which the school is teaching.

What makes you think that your host country is required in any way to "...understand the needs and DEMANDS of the Muslim children"?
You have immigrated into a country that does NOT segregate people by sex and consequently does not have the sexual and other problems that male Muslims have.
If you preferred the culture of your country of origin, you should have stayed there. It is as simple as that. Don't tell us what is best for us. We know what hatred is taught in Muslim schools as a matter of course.
You come to the new country as an appreciative immigrant, NOT as Conquerors where you can impose your will. Your host doesn't ask your advice on how to arrange his house and certainly doesn't appreciate the murders and mayham according to your customs in his house.
You may even had citizenship granted to you after a certain time and condition but that STILL doesn't give you the right to impose your culture ANYWHERE in the country that took you in.....at YOUR request. Ingratitude is an ugly attribute I suppose in any culture.
Don't tell us what is best for us, just go back! You go your way and we'll go ours.

You tell him. Pakistan is not example a model of how a country should be. Last I checked it is a haven for terrorists including UBL. Everyday people are blowing each other up. Who the Hell does this guy think he is? What arrogance!

You were a lot nicer and more tolerant to him than I was. Sometimes we are so tolerant and open minded that, as a society, it is suicidal. In miniature, it is like UCI bending itself into a pretzel to accommodate its Muslim students so much that it loses the opportunity to become a great American University.
I greatly object to foreigners or recent arrivals, even with freshly minted citizenship papers, lecturing us on how America should be or could be better if only we were more like their old culture. IftikharA gives that as the REAL excuse for a brutal crime of murdering ones own child (!) ... we should be more sensitive to the needs and DEMANDS of the Muslims among us.
Hey, you want to go somewhere where the sexes are separated and it is OK to murder your children then, for God's sake, go back to one of those cultures. It would save both sides a lot of aggravation if you would just stay in a society you believe is better. And further, if you don't like the "...onslaught of Eurocentricism, homosexuality, racism and secular values and traditions." don't go half way around the world to be exposed to it.

It certainly feeds the jingoistic urge. What is sad is that people like Ahmad give a black eye to all immigrants. Most immigrants in the US are contributing and are welcomed. Some unfortunately come here with the attitue that they own the place.
Once in a while Miggie, you should make an attempt to make sense to Iftikhar, and others you debate with, rather than just trying to blow off anyone you find annoying or politically incorrect.
