Fast and Furious: More Lies

Hat tip to Hot Air

Yesterday, as Hot Air points out, the administration and DOJ dumped more documents regarding Fast and Furious strategically on a Friday to beat the news cycle. Here is Hot Air's report. Pay particular attention to an e-mail dated February 4, 2011 by former US Attorney in Phoenix Dennis Burke.

"Burke — the U.S. Attorney who has since resigned — not only denied use of the gunrunning tactic in the Feb. 4 letter to Congress, but actually argued that ATF should more vigorously deny the charge.

“What is so offensive about this whole project is that [Sen. Chuck] Grassley’s staff, acting as willing stooges for the Gun Lobby, have attempted to distract from the incredible success in dismantling [southwest border] gun trafficking operations … but, instead, lobbing this reckless despicable accusation that ATF is complicit in the murder of a fellow federal law enforcement officer,” Burke wrote in a Feb. 4 e-mail."

Amazing. Keep in mind that Border Patrol agent Brian Terry was killed on December 14, 2010. Two weapons were recovered from the scene that were traced back to sales surveilled by ATF agents in Operation Fast and Furious. There was reportedly a third weapon that has mysteriously disappeared from official reports that may have been connected to an FBI informant.

And Dennis Burke says on February 4th that ATF was not complicit in the murder of a fellow federal law enforcement officer. It staggers the imagination.

When I was a DEA agent, I always felt that were I to be killed in the line of duty, my agency and the DOJ would move heaven and earth to bring those responsible to justice. I no longer can believe that. This is not the Justice Department I worked for. Eric Holder and his political underlings have brought shame and disgrace to a once-proud department and a once-proud ATF. In addition, the agency and department that Brian Terry worked for (Border Patrol under Alan Bersin and DHS under Janet Napolitano) have stood by silently while the DOJ lies and covers up their disgraceful role in the death of Terry, as well as ICE agent Jaime Zapata in Mexico.

Where is justice?
