This evening the UC Irvine College Republicans invited members of the Israeli Reservists on Duty to speak at their meeting. As expected pro-Palestinian students and activists disrupted it. About ten of these students were allowed to fill empty seats and quickly began chanting led by a girl with a bullhorn. Campus police and the dean of students were present and after a few minutes of this disruption ushered the protesters outside where they could be heard chanting.
I was not able to attend but I have obtained videotapes from some who were. I will be posting them shortly. There is plenty of video from the CR side as well.
I will follow up on this. I expect others will as well.

Day 4 at UC Irvine Catastrophe Week
I was not present at Thursday's daytime event. From my sources it was the usual activity around the "apartheid wall" and the usual dopey chants though reportedly there was no getting in anybody's faces. At the end of the chanting, the little rascals performed their daily prayers for the world to see.
There was reportedly some bickering between the IDF Reservists on Duty who were present and the pro-Palestinians and a complaint of some sort that some Reservists' bags and posters were moved around to the Palestinian side of the wall. (Their safe spaces.)
All in all, things were calmer than the previous day.
Interesting question: Why is it that the space reserved for these pro-Palestinian events is under the name of Alkalima (the name of an MSU publication) as opposed to SJP or MSU. Both of these organizations are claiming sponsorship of the week of events on their websites. SJP, of course, is on UCI probation for two years as a result of their disruption of a pro-Israel event last May.
Tonight, the College Republicans have invited the Reservists to their (CR's) meeting. I cannot attend but I know the CR's have announced strict rules for audience conduct.

"Intersectionality" is a term someone on the left invented not to describe traffic patterns, but to link different issues together in innovative ways when their relationships are questionable at best. Thus, the leftists in academia have been able to explain to our children in college that the "plight" of the Palestinians is relevant to the experience of African-Americans, gays, and the threat to our environment to name just a few.
Intersectionality
A more credible example of intersectionality would be the connection between hatred for Israel and hatred for America. Having listened to way too many anti-Israel diatribes at UC Irvine and other campuses over the years, I have noted in almost every case, the speaker drifts from condemning Israel to condemning America as being "imperialistic", "genocidal", "racist", and God knows what else. In this piece by Paul Miller in American Spectator (and cross-posted in Campus Watch), Miller writes about a professor at UC San Diego and a graduate student at UCSD. Please be patient, Dear Reader because there is an intersection between the two. This Ethnic Studies professor, Yen Le Espiratu, as you can see from the article, is full of loathing for Israel. (What professor in the humanities isn't?). The graduate student, Leslie Quintanilla, who is also an asst. professor of *Chicano Studies at San Diego City College, and is also a harsh critic of the US.
(* Chicano is a term that refers to Mexican-Americans. When I was growing up in Los Angeles in the 1950s and 1960s, it was the young toughies who embraced this term. To my wife, who was born in Mexico, it is an offensive term. Yet, the far left in academia use it constantly.)
So now here comes the intersection. Espiratu invites Quintanilla to address her class in which she tears into both Israel and the US. (Quintanilla is also a leader in the Palestinian Youth Movement.)
"So, when we think about the relationship between what we call Israel and what we call the US, we see a similar — not completely the same, but a similar strategy of genocide and indigenous removal from indigenous lands."
And so it goes. In American universities, no two countries are loathed as much as Israel and the US. Not North Korea, not Iran, not Sudan, not Pakistan, not Venezuela, not Cuba, not Russia. To any logical thinker, there is obviously something very wrong in our universities. If it were merely the expression of free thought, that would be one thing-except that speech favorable to the US or Israel is met with disapproval to the point of violent and disruptive protests. No, what we must conclude is that our universities-specifically in the social sciences and humanities- have been literally taken over by the far left.
To "prove" their viewpoints are valid, the leftists must concoct obtuse theories like "intersectionality", a perversion of connecting the dots. Another example would be how the left in academia deal with Israel and gay rights. The fact is that there is only one nation in the Middle East where gays can live openly, safely, and in full enjoyment of their rights. That nation is Israel. In the neighboring Middle East lands, gays are killed, thrown off high buildings in Gaza, or hanged from construction cranes in places like Iran. Not be deterred, the left is intent on linking Palestinians and gays in common cause (at least in the West). In this case, their version of intersectionality requires a detour, which is the theory of "pink washing", a term bought into by some in the US gay lobby that says that Israel takes unfair advantage of the above facts to the detriment of the poor Palestinians. It is totally devoid of logic, but in the world inhabited by people like Espiratu and Quintanilla, logic and common sense are useless exercises.
It would be easy to want to laugh all this off and let academia live in splendid isolation. We cannot ignore it because it is our children whose minds are being poisoned. I am not arguing for censorship, but until the free exchange of views returns to our universities and this nonsense dies of its own natural causes, we need to consider as students and as parents whether we want to consider alternative fields of study and alternative ways of getting an education.

Germany: Another Grim Fairy Tale

Here is just the latest Grim fairy tale out of Germany. It took place in the southern German town of Jueterbog, where a 23-year-old naked guy from Syria wandered out on the street and caused cars to stop with a long iron pole which he used to demolish one woman's car. Finally, German cops arrived and subdued him with pepper spray.

Day 3 at UCI Catastrophe Week
And what a catastrophe it was for the kids in Students in Justice in Palestine and Muslim Student Union at UC Irvine. Once again, they no doubt had to get up early to re-construct their silly apartheid wall. Once again they were all dressed in Hamas-style garb using Palestinian keffiyas to mask their faces. Once again they marched around chanting and getting in the faces of Israeli Reservists on Duty. The police presence was massive as they worked to keep both sides separate. They did a very good job.
One young guy in particular, who was the real hothead, repeatedly walked up to me while I was videotaping and got in my face. I stood my ground in silence as the cops hovered over us. This character was obviously trying to intimidate me, but it didn't work. On the first occasion, he came up and stared at me for about 5 minutes. I just stood my ground and continued filming his Palestinian facial covering until he gave up and walked away. (Or at least I thought I was. For some reason my cell phone didn't function, but then again, who would want to watch that for five minutes?)
Update: I got it. Here it is.
I did manage to interview a young lady from the IDF Reservists who told me what happened the previous day as SJP et al got in their faces with their chants.
Also, prior to the chants which started at 12, noon, a couple of the Reservists crossed over to the self-proclaimed "SJP side" of the wall and one young man spoke to the aforementioned hothead with cops standing by. He told this character that he would be meeting with Israeli Knesset members next week and would be happy to deliver any letter SJP would care to write. He also asked to shake his hand. All he got were a couple of F bombs. Twice, Mr Hot Head warned his followers, "Nobody from us better say one f---- word". You can hear it below.
And the fun continued for an hour or so. At the end of the below video, Mr Hothead gives everybody the finger.
This evening, some guy named Anis Zubi is speaking, but I'll pass. I would rather watch baseball.
I can only repeat that the SJP/MSU are only hurting their cause with the dress and loud, aggressive actions. The students (as always) I observed passing by had expressions of either amusement or annoyance on their faces. It has always been that way.

Day 2 Nakba Week at UC Irvine
It's a real catastrophe
I did not get to UC Irvine today since I was doing grandfather duties, but my little birdies were. According to my little birdies, the MSU/SJP types were on Ring Road again with their dopey apartheid wall and faces covered once again with scary Palestinian masks. Nothing like dressing up like Hamas terrorists when you are trying to win the hearts and minds of Americans. Anyway, today had a new twist. I had mentioned yesterday that the Israeli IDF group, Reservists on Duty had a couple of members present nearby answering questions. Today, there were more, and the MSU-SJP types had a new tactic. As they broke into their dopey chants for the listening pleasure of the campus, individual members would get in the face of an Israeli Reservist or other Jewish/Hillel student and yell the chants in their respective faces.
That must have made a great impression on the public.
Fortunately, there were plenty of campus cops and officials present. Reportedly, a school official advised Reservists to move back for their own protection. The Reservists reportedly replied that they could take care of themselves. No doubt about that.
Along that vein....
Isssss it true that a couple of weeks back, members of UCI's Hillel were summoned to a meeting with a certain high-ranking UCI official who complained that (Hillel) wasn't doing enough about the Reservist on Duty problem-apparently referring to their presence at UCI last May when they had their own event disrupted by the MSU and SJP? (I think that's a question.)
Memo to SJP/MSU: Keep it up. You are hurting your own cause.

Turkey under President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is becoming a rogue country and destroying whatever hope they may have had to enter the European Union (before the EU itself collapses). Now Turkey's foreign minister, in the height of arrogance and irony, is calling on the EU to criminalize Islamophobia. It's like Hitler's foreign minister, an equally arrogant guy named Joaquim von Ribbentrop, calling on the world to criminalize Naziphobia.

So while Muslim fanatics around the world slaughter innocents and while fanatical Muslim clerics scream for jihad in all too many mosques, both in the Muslim world and in the West, while Jews and Christians are called "apes and pigs" and while a genocide against Middle East Christians has been on-going in places like Syria and Iraq, what are we Westerners supposed to call ourselves?
I have tried as hard as any commentator not to preach hate against Muslims as people. At the same time, I have said before and will repeat that the underlying root for all this hatred and violence is the teaching of Islam itself, especially as it pertains to Islam's political ideology.
If that makes me an Islamophobe, then I plead guilty.
Familiar Faces at UC Irvine Protest
I accidentally came across the below video on YouTube of the protest against Milo Yiannopoulos at UC Irvine in June 2016. I don;t recall seeing this action because I was apparently standing at the rear of a long line waiting (unsuccessfully) to get in and see Yiannopoulos speak. This is what I posted on the event.
