More Academic Nonsense at UC Santa Cruz

"This talk explores why and how it is imperative to center Palestine and an anti-Zionist commitment within teacher education through lenses like FaithCrit and humanizing pedagogies."

-UC Santa Cruz Events Page /Education Department announcement

I am cross-posting an article by Tammi Rossman-Benjamin, retired professor at UC Santa Cruz and co-founder of the Amcha Initiative, an organization dedicated to exposing and fighting anti-Semitism in our universities.

Tammi's article concerns an announcement last January by the Education Department UC Santa Cruz of an event dedicated to the idea that early childhood education should focus on instilling in small schoolchildren a bias against the state of Israel. This event was scheduled on January 22, 2025 and featured somebody named "Dr Lilly Padila" as the speaker. I suspect UCSC got the name wrong because I can't find that name anywhere, but there is an Asst Professor  Lily Padia who teaches racial linguistic justice at the Erikson Institute in Chicago. Based on the bio, this appears to be the same one, and apologies if I'm wrong.

This is just another example of why years ago, I labeled UC Santa Cruz as "America's wackiest university".  In addition to all the anti-Semitic aspects of this "academic theme", I would ask just why is it so important for elementary school kids in California or anywhere in the US to be taught that Israel and Zionism are so evil? Why not teach the kiddies about what is happening in the Sudan? How about the India-Pakistan conflict over Kashmir? How about the Cypress conflict between Turkey and Greece?

Shouldn't they be learning to read and write, and start learning about the history of our own country?

If our radical leftist "educators" in California want elementary school kids to be inundated with the Israel-Palestinian conflict, why not give them instruction on what Hamas did on October 7, 2023?

The obvious answer is that it was so horrific, it would cause our children to have nightmares and possibly even be damaged as they grow up.
