France: Jewish Woman Stabbed at Her Door in Lyon-Swastika Carved in Her Door

Lyon

Today in Lyon, France a 30-year-old Jewish woman answered her door (which had a Jewish Mezuzah attached) and was promptly stabbed twice in the abdomen by an unidentified male who fled and is still being sought. The victim was treated at a local hospital and is not in danger of her life. A swastika was also marked on her front door by the attacker.

Since October 7, the date of the Hamas attack on Israeli civilians, France is experiencing a wave of anti-Semitic attacks.

A 30-year-old Jewish woman was stabbed at her residence in the Montluc quarter of Lyon, 3rd district around 1 pm, Saturday, Le Progres has learned.

The anti-Semitic character of the attack is suspected by the investigators as of Saturday evening:  A swastika was marked on the front door of the victim. The door was decorated with a mezuzah, an object of the Jewish religion that is frequently placed on the door of a residence.

According to the statements of the victim, someone rang her door, she opened it, and the individual stabbed her twice with a knife. He was dressed in dark clothing, his face partially covered, and he fled after the act.

The victim, struck in the abdomen, was transported to a Lyon hospital, without life-threatening injuries. Her condition, according to our information, was no longer of great concern as of 8 pm this evening.

"The initial findings have led the Lyon Prosecutor's Office to open an investigation into attempted murder, aggravated by the circumstance that the act could be motivated by an anti-Semitic motive," the prosecutor's office stated Saturday evening.

The departmental security police and the zonal divisional of the Judicial Police (DZPJ) are in charge of the matter in the context of a flagrant crime. The suspect is being actively sought.

If the anti-Semitic avenue is being examined as a priority, the familial context is also being studied by investigators. "The victim was in the process of a divorce," several people have indicated to Progres.
