Stanford News in Action

 Hat tip Campus Reform

A few days ago, we posted an article about how the Stanford Daily, the Stanford University campus newspaper, had blasted the Stanford College Republicans (CR) and stated that they did not deserve to be on campus.

Naturally, the College Republicans sent a response in to the Stanford Daily in their own defense. You would think that any responsible newspaper-even a university campus paper- would do the responsible thing and post the response.

Not the Stanford Daily. They refused to publish the College Republicans' response because "it did not meet their journalistic standards".

Journalistic standards? The Stanford Daily has no journalistic standards. I can understand why a paper like the New York Times didn't have the duty to post a response from, say, President Trump every time they attacked him. However, we are talking about a campus newspaper, a relatively small community.

Yes, the Stanford Daily does have a duty to publish a response from the Campus Republicans after they have posted an article saying that the CR should not be on campus. That is a serious charge, and the CR should be allowed to state their case and defend themselves.
