"Slavery cannot just be treated as a moral evil in and of itself," he said, adding that "I don't think it's morally evil to own somebody because we own lots of people all around us. And we're owned by people. And this obsession of thinking of slavery as property – it's treated as this inconceivable sin. I think that's actually a really odd and unhelpful way to think about slavery and kind of gets you locked in this way of thinking where, if you talk about ownership and people, that you've already transgressed some moral boundary that you can't come back from. But I don't think that's true at all."

Georgetown professor Jonathan Brown made some very revealing comments about slavery and rape from an Islamic point of view this past week when he spoke in Herndon, Virginia. "I'll answer your question for you," Brown told Lee. "The fact that there was slavery is a wrong. Okay. If you're a Muslim, the prophet of God ... had slaves. He had slaves. There's no denying that. Are you more morally mature than the prophet of God? No, you're not."
Fousesquawk response: Yes, I am Professor. I have never owned slaves. Nor have I ever killed anyone or had anyone killed on my command.
I hope someone at Georgetown will take a look at this and the Alwaleed bin Talal Center. They have a real problem on their hands.
