The Attorney General Nominee

I had never heard of Loretta Lynch prior to yesterday's announcement that she is the nominee to replace Eric Holder, so it is too soon to make a pronouncement. However, Rudy Giuliani, who knows her, had nothing negative to say about her. Right now the biggest question I have is whether she will be considered by the present Congress or the next. (I have heard conflicting reports).

On the one hand, I am sure she is not going to be the next Ed Meese or John Ashcroft. I just don't want to see the next Eric Holder. She is currently the US Attorney in the Eastern District of New York (Brooklyn) and is a professional prosecutor.

As it stands right now, I am cautiously inclined to give her the benefit of the doubt. Of course, I am interested to see how she will cooperate with Congress in the Fast and Furious scandal (and a couple of others). If there are no red flags out there, why should Obama try to rush her through the lame duck Congress? In all likelihood, either Congress would vote to confirm her.

A sober assessment Gary. I'm sure the president has in mind nominating people who will be confirmed by a Republican controlled senate, and Mitch McConnell knows that President Obama is not going to nominate another Ashcroft.
