"The Science is Settled"

While the carnage in Syria goes on, it has now spread to Iraq. As in Syria, Iraqi Shiites are being murdered as quickly as the Sunnis can capture them. Christians are hiding in fear of their lives as are Christians all over the Islamic world. The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) is proudly posting videos and photos of their grisly mass executions. The concept of country has little meaning left for Iraq and Syria. The border between them no longer exists. It isn't about country anyway. It is all about religion. Atrocities are being committed in the name of Allah and who should have been the rightful successor to the Prophet Muhammad back in the 7th century. That sounds more like a Mafia battle for succession to me.

With few exceptions, the entire Middle East is going up in flames. ISIS says that Jordan is next, and who can doubt them? Meanwhile, Muslims from Western countries are rushing off to join the jihad in Syria and Iraq by the thousands.

In Nigeria, a bestial group called Boko Haram massacres Christians, burns churches, kidnaps schoolgirls, and does so in the name of Allah. They have left thousands of dead and maimed in their trail. Today, they bombed a place where Nigerians were watching the World Cup. The reports are just coming in, so the body count has not been tallied.

In Somalia, the Islamist group, Al Shabaab wages its own Jihad now venturing into neighboring Kenya and massacring non-Muslims and those who don't speak Somali. For the second consecutive day, they carried out a massacre on the Kenyan coast. Yesterday, it was 48 dead. Today, nine dead at last count.

Have I even gotten around to Al Qaeda yet?

The inescapable fact is that everywhere you look in the Islamic world, you see violence-if not outright war-hate, supremacist rhetoric, persecution against religious minorities, and threats of conquest to the rest of the world. Blasphemy of Islam is to be punished by death. Those who leave Islam are to be punished by death. Again, that is more life a mafia.

In Europe, Muslim communities remain unassimilated, and non-Muslims dare not enter their neighborhoods, where sharia is actually enforced. Jews in Europe are fearful of attacks from Muslim immigrants. The Europeans have no idea what to do.

Neither does President Obama-at least when it comes to Iraq. He dithers as the terrorists near Baghdad, where we still have an embassy and American personnel living and working. While few would suggest sending ground troops into Iraq, it makes sense to launch air strikes on the ISIS as they move around the desert in their vehicle convoys. These are bad guys who someday in the near future will use Iraq and Syria to come after the US and Israel. Is Obama afraid of causing another "highway of death"? What's the problem? If we can kill a few thousand of these savages, so much the better.

Aside from that, I don't have many answers for this piece of the world. One thing we must not do-but we surely will- is start bringing more of these characters to the US as refugees like we did the Somalis and the Brothers Tsarnaev. That really worked out well, didn't it? What we are seeing in Iraq must be kept out of the US at all costs. We also need to start finding a way to deport what we used to call "undesirable aliens-by that I mean those who come here and cause problems or are even suspected of being "radicals" (quotation marks mine). I can only hope that other civilized countries do the same.

Again, I sympathize with decent Muslims, but they are on the sidelines. With few exceptions, they are not fighting this evil either out of fear or sympathy, and I don't really know how those numbers break down. But we must not succumb to the temptation to do them harm. We must remain a nation of laws.

I just know that we cannot stop what is happening in the Islamic world, but we have to protect ourselves from it coming here-which it already has. We also have to be honest about the threat we face and stop with the political correctness about Islam being hijacked by a tiny minority of extremists who don't really understand what they are doing or why they are doing it.

To steal a phrase from the Global Warming crowd, the science is settled.

It makes sense to stay out -- there is no organized force we could support (except the Kurds), and any bombing we do will benefit someone we don't like.
