What Happens to Muslim Apostates in Britain?

Hat tip Creeping Sharia and Dispatches

In the below-linked video, Dispatches reporter Antony Barnett interviewed several British subjects who had converted from Islam to Christianity. They described the hostility and threats they encountered as a result. Barnett also interviewed Muslim religious figures in Britain as to what Sharia law prescribes for apostates. He got mixed answers. The video is 46 minutes long, but very interesting.

Two things I noted, which I would like to point out here.

1  Hizb-ut-Tahrir, the radical Islamist organization that calls for a worldwide Islamic caliphate, has a clause in its constitution affirming the death penalty for apostates. This group is not only active in the UK, but it also has a chapter in the US.

2 In 2003, Prince Charles met with British Muslim leaders. A suggestion was made that they proclaim that British apostates should not be subject to retribution. No such statement was issued. In 2009 and again in 2012, Nonie Darwish and her organization, Former Muslims United, sent letters to 200 Muslim leaders in the US asking that they sign a simple statement that American apostates should not be harmed. To date, two have signed. I have spoken with three of the addressees* in California and personally given them copies of the letter. Two of them claimed they had never received it. None have ever signed.

For the 99% who would not sign, who are they concerned with? Is it their own constituency or their church superiors -or both?

Clearly, this notion that converts from Islam should be murdered is deep rooted in the culture from top to bottom.

It is interesting how long tribal, nomadic, values can persist among the descendants for centuries, regardless of the cost and outdated brutality of it.
