Daniel Boone-Type Mascot Axed by University of Denver

Offensive

I guess Davy Crockett is next if there are any universities out there who have adopted him as a mascot.

“Boone was a polarizing figure that did not reflect the growing diversity of the UD community, but rather was an image that many women, persons of color, international students and faculty members found difficult to relate to as defining the pioneering spirit,” Chancellor Robert Coombe said in a March letter to the school community.

Thus, the above mascot is being eliminated by the University of Denver because it was offensive to certain groups of people for reasons nobody knows.

Presumably, Denver will join universities like UC Irvine (the Anteaters) or even better, UC Santa Cruz (the Banana Slugs) in coming up with some mascot guaranteed not to offend anybody for any possible reason whatsoever.

How about the Wimps?

Anyone who wants to get rid of Davy Crockett should know that he voted against expelling the Cherokees from their traditional home in the southeast. He was warned that this was not the view of his constituents, but he responded, I know that, this is a matter of right and wrong. He was not re-elected to congress.
