What it Means to be Politically Incorrect in Germany

Last week, the German city of Hamburg experienced the better part of a week undergoing riots by young Muslim men. I posted news on the events and remarked that even in the Hamburg city papers, the riots were being buried in small articles on back pages. One of the sources I linked for news of the riots was the German blog, Politically Incorrect, which is linked on this site.

One of my teaching colleagues is married to a German man. She had been unaware of the events in Hamburg, so I sent her my links. Her husband, had also been unaware, so he was also interested to find out more.

Yesterday, I was informed by my teaching colleague that her husband was reluctant to open Politically Incorrect because it is supposedly on a German government list of "hate sites". ( I don't know whether it is or not.)

So consider this: This fellow is now an American citizen residing in the US. He has family in Germany and returns regularly. Yet he is worried about opening up a site that the German government considers a hate site. Keep in mind that it has just been revealed that Germany has collaborated with the NSA in its recently-revealed data gathering on millions of Americans.

Is it paranoia? And who are we worried about here, the German government, the US government or both?

Food for thought.

PS: I do not consider Politically Incorrect to be a hate site, and I will continue to link it on my blog.
