Steven Greenhut Column on Janet Napolitano and the University of California

Hat tip Reason.com and OC Register

From this.....                                                                                            to this.

Steven Greenhut's final op-ed for the Orange County Register appeared today. The theme is that the University of California made a poor choice in selecting Janet Napolitano to head up the UC system.

With the exception of the paragraph relating to the UC Davis pepper-spraying incident, I totally agree with Greenhut. Out-going president Mark Yudof was the personification of an empty suit. Yudof has presided over a giant bureaucracy overflowing with associate chancellors, vice chancellors, deans, asst deans, and departmental chairs for inane fields of study like History of Consciousness at UC Santa Cruz (America's Wackiest University) all at annual salaries approaching or far exceeding $200,000. Yudof wasn't running a university; he was running a principality.

What Greenhut left out was Yudof's feckless and disinterested handling of the on-going problem of anti-Semitism on the UC campuses. Nobody in the UC system wants to deal with it because it stems from the activities of the various Muslim Student Association chapters as well as Students for Justice in Palestine as they rail on about Israel.

Yudof will not be missed, but few of us were delusional enough to think that his replacement would be any better. I predict that Napolitano will be even worse. How is it that such a poor performance at Homeland Security can be rewarded with the UC presidency? With this incompetent and stubborn woman in charge, the victory for political correctness will be absolute.

But there is good news. I will still have plenty to write about.
