Random Shots in the Dark (42)

The news is slow today-no major Obama scandals have broken and the Cubs lost again- so it's a good day to catch up on ...Random Shots in the Dark.

Speaking of the Waveland Avenue Champs, shortstop Starlin Castro has announced that for every error he makes this season, he will donate $1,000 to charity.

Oops. There's another one now.

In fact, I hear that Starlin is planning to change his uniform number from that unlucky 13 to E5.

If I can squeeze in a word or two about all the Obamagates going on before the next bombshell breaks, I note that Victoria Nuland, the State Department spokeshole, who is on all those e-mails demanding changes to the intelligence talking points on Benghazi, has now been punished appropriately. She has been promoted to Asst. Secretary of State. Let that serve as a warning to others.

Unheard of? Think again. The IRS official who was overseeing all that tax-exempt targeting of conservative groups, Sarah Hall Ingram, has already been promoted to the IRS section overseeing ObamaCare.

(October 1 is just around the corner, Folks.)

But the real Phoenix rising from the ashes success story has to be the redemption of Anthony Weiner. Yes, Folks, after a suitable period of reflection, counseling, and spending time with his family, Little Anthony has his imperial face back on and is running for mayor of New York. Maybe NY will change its name from the "Big Apple" to the ......never mind.

Of course, out here in soon-to-be-bankrupt LA, the 100,000 or so eligible voters plus those that aren't have just decided who the new mayor will be taking over the reins from playboy Antonio Villaraigosa. That would be ex-city councilman Eric Garcetti, son of Gil Garcetti, the DA who botched the OJ trial by moving it  from Santa Monica to downtown. Eric beat out ex-city councilwoman and comptroller Wendy Gruehl. Both of them ran on campaigns based on their "experience"and "proven problem-solving ability". Translation? They helped Villaraigosa run the city into the ground and to the verge of bankruptcy, so they were clearly the obvious choice to save  LA.

Such is the plight of once-great LA; The mayoral race came down to two hacks who were involved in the financial mess in the first place.

"The house is on fire. Call the arsonist."

Moving back to international affairs, how many of you folks out there still think the US should ban handguns and be like, say, the Brits-after seeing what happened this week on a London Street? It took the famed Bobbies a good 20 minutes to get there, by which time, the two jihadists had finished their work and given speeches to the curious on-lookers. (Seems the police force had to round up special units who were allowed to carry arms.) If this had happened in Texas, someone would have taken the two out and maybe saved a life.

Someday, common sense will be back in vogue.

I'm waiting for October 1. I haven't had health insurance since July 2009. At least I'll be able to buy something affordable, without having my premiums figured by the high rate of casual use of emergency rooms common within parts of my zip code.

I don't think there will be much opportunity to discriminate against people with "Tea Party" on their insurance applications.
