Violence Against Women: Do We Only Care About Certain Types ?

Hat tip Gates of Vienna

The below-linked document was written originally in Dutch by Geert Wilders and J.J. van Klaveren, both Dutch politicians of the Party for Freedom. The English translation has been made and it is provocative reading. Arguably no other European country has witnessed more outrages by certain of its Muslim immigrants than the Netherlands. In the below document, Wilders and van Klaveren outline their case that Muslim females suffer abuse in ways that are simply unacceptable and illegal in the West. As I have before, I would invite both Muslim and non-Muslim readers to weigh in here. I recognize that most Muslim readers will find the text offensive. If so, please comment. I would never refuse any person the chance to defend their religion.

One of the fears I have is that the West, in trying to be tolerant of other cultures and certain of their practices, is turning a blind eye to certain human rights abuses being visited upon Muslim women-who deserve the same legal protections as all of our citizens.

In February 2012, I attended a "town hall" on shariah hosted by the Islamic Center of Orange County, which is headed by Muzammil Siddiqi, the former head of the Islamic Society of North America. Members of the panel included Democratic congresswomen Maxine Waters, Loretta Sanchez, and Judy Chu, LA County Sheriff Lee Baca, and LAPD head of the Counter Terror unit, Michael Downing among others. All of them were supporting the notion that sharia law was compatible with our Constitution and those who opposed it were simply Islamophobes. During the Q and A,  a woman of Lebanese descent, who is married to a Muslim, tried to ask the law enforcement officials if they would make an arrest in the case of a Muslim domestic disturbance if the husband had physically assaulted the wife. That set off a bit of a firestorm as Siddiqi tried to intercept the question stating that wife-beating was forbidden in the Koran. What followed was a back and forth between Siddiqi and the woman as some members of the audience called for the woman to sit down and shut up. Finally, I believe it was Downing who settled the contretemps by saying that yes, in such a case, they would make an arrest.

Not long ago, I posted an article about the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC) annual conference held at the All Saints Episcopal Church in Pasadena late last year. One of the speakers was a young Muslim lady from New York named Darakshan Raja, who works as a professional in the area of domestic abuse. She courageously went against the tone of the conference and spoke openly about the problem of domestic abuse within the Muslim community, which she called the community's biggest problem.

You can access the video of her speech here. I urge you to listen to it. It is compelling and emotional.

Presently, the Islamic Circle of North America has established shelters for Muslim female victims of domestic abuse. There is one in Anaheim. I would assume they are properly registered with the county and report all appropriate cases of physical assaults to the police.

You should know the rule by now Gary. There is one law for Muslims and another for the rest of us. Muslims are a special group with special privileges and rights.
