Violence Against Women: Big Flap in Canada Over Labour Minister's Endorsement of Islamic Book

Hat tip Creeping Sharia

There is a big flap going on in Ontario, Canada over the endorsement by Labour Minister Yasir Naqvi of a book written by Suhail Kapoor that has a section on wife-beating. The below report is by Omni TV, South Asia Edition. It features interviews with the author of the book and an official of the Islamic Society of North America in Canada.

Since this is Violence Against Women Week at the UN, this news is timely. Last year, I attended Open Mosque Day at the Islamic Center of Orange County, whose head imam is the former head of the Islamic Society of North America, Muzammil Siddiqi. By coincidence, they were handing out free copies of an English paperback Koran (translated by Dr Syed Vickar Ahamed-Book of Signs Foundation). Surah 4. 34 is the part in the Koran that deals with this topic. Here is the English wording of this particular Koran. (Translations are very important.)

"... As for those women on whose part you fear disloyalty, caution and warn them at first, then refuse to share their beds and then percuss them....."

Percuss them.

For all you UC Santa Cruz Community Studies and History of Consciousness majors, a drum is called a percussion instrument.

Gene Krupa- World famous percussionist

Here is my dictionary's definition of percuss: To strike, rap gently and firmly, as in medical diagnosis.
(Webster's New World Dictionary of the American Language-1959.)
