In the past week, we have highlighted the DNC's little waltz with radical cleric Siraj Wahhaj in Charlotte. The big Jumah Friday prayer fizzled when the DNC decided belatedly to drop the event from their official schedule and instead of 2,000 people, only 200 showed up for the mass prayer in Marshall Park.
But fear not. Siraj will be out here in Anaheim on November 3rd for CAIR's annual banquet at the Convention Center. The DNC may have decided that Wahhaj's references to America being a filthy garbage can, arming black ex-cons with Uzis in the inner city and turning them loose for Jihad, or references to Islam conquering America were a little over the top, but for CAIR-no problem. He is one of their favorite speakers.
As for CAIR itself, they have also been busy. Most recently in California, they have taken exception to the California State Assembly passing Resolution 35, which calls on colleges in California to address the problem of anti-Semitism that regularly arises during the never-ending anti-Israel campus rallies (generally organized by Muslim Student Associations and Students for Justice in Palestine). It seems they want to "protect open debate" and free speech against Israel even though they try to sue and slander anyone who wants to engage in open debate and practice free speech about Islamic extremism and persecution of religious minorities in Muslim-dominated countries. This is the same outfit that tries to block members of the Muslim community from cooperating with the FBI in spite of the fact that some of the recent foiled terrorist attacks have come thanks to local Muslims tipping off the FBI (as reported publicly by the FBI itself).
And the other speaker, Michael Ratner? Co-counsel for the GITMO detainees. Enough said.

Isn't that what the Moral Majority has been saying, Focus on the Family, a good part of standard Republican campaign speeches?
Oh, yes, followed by rhetoric about how America was once a pristine beacon, and will be again when "we" are elected, but basically, the same line. "Mine Host of Merrymount" arrived in Plymouth colony no later than the Pilgrim Separatists. If you dont' recognize the reference, you must be a community studies major at UC-Santa Cruz.

Homework: Read the first five chapters, and write a 200 word essay on the significance of "Mine Host of Merrymount" to the Pilgrim and Puritan vision of a "City on a Hill."
Correction, I have the 1945 version of Willison's book. The earlier the better, when it comes to accurate history, isn't that right, Gary?
