Last I checked, our administration has identified the Fatah folks of Mahmoud Abbas in the Palestinian Authority as who the Israelis must negotiate with (since Hamas in Gaza will not, preferring to wipe Israel off the face of the map). Yet, the Jew hatred in the West Bank has been documented time and time again. Now comes these words from the spiritual head of the Palestinian Authority, the Mufti Mohammed Hussein, as he repeats the famous hadith of hate. In the face of this, why is it that Israel is accused of being intransigent? Why is it that our leaders and the Europeans are demanding that Israel sit down at the negotiating table with this? It brings to mind the nagging question; is this really about land-or about religion?
Finally, on a parochial level, I again ask how the University of California and its much-acclaimed Olive Tree Initiative can continue to send students-especially Jewish students-into this hostile environment.
Remember the Fogel massacre? Think it couldn't happen again?

I know! Maybe a couple of the UCI teachers can go to the Palestinian Authority and convince them to finance some of their young Muslims to come to UCI to hear some ZOA and StandWithUs speakers present the Israeli narrative so they can go back and "discuss" the issues.
Who knows how much good will and resolution of issues would flow from these efforts? They could return and give "Show and Tell" shows to the folks on the West Bank and Gaza and solicit more support and funds.
I understand the OTI founders and personnel are only interested in "better understanding" and "discussion.". If they are truly even handed, they would con the Palestinians as they did the Jewish Federation to provide money.

What a religious leader says, and what a functional government does, are generally (thank God) two different things.
It is certainly true that the PA only entered into negotiations because the IDF convinced them that they would never wipe Israel off the map.
However, Israel cannot wipe the Arabic peoples who inhabited the former British Mandate of Palestine off the map either. Therefore, they must negotiate, and the result must be something the Palestinians can live with.
Gary, Israel funds the PA (they give them millions of dollars). The head of the IDF, the Shin Bet (their version of the FBI) and the Mossad (think CIA) constantly triumph the PA's security record.

Not that I k ow of. If so, hardly can say that represents the PA, unless you know something the IDF doesn't

The Tanach is full of plagues sent upon Jews from heaven for their evil-doing. There are Orthodox rabbis who described the Churban Europa as a plague sent by God as punishment for the sins of secularism.
