Congressman Darrell Issa's interesting comment to Chris Wallace about DEA being involved in Fast and Furious even more than ATF requires some further details. What exactly is Issa talking about when he says that "DEA knew more than ATF"?

We already know that DEA had some joint role in Fast and Furious and that DEA Administrator Michele Leonhart was present at a joint meeting with her counterparts from other agencies to discuss Fast and Furious. But if DEA's role (or knowledge) was greater than ATF's role, as Issa has said, an explanation is warranted.
I don't say that lightly. I am a proud DEA retired agent who continues to support my old agency. I never knew Michele Leonhart, but I do recall her name. As I recall, she came up as a street agent in San Diego. Normally, federal agents don't come up from the street level to become agency heads, though there are exceptions. Most directors come from the ranks of political appointees, people with strong connections. I only raise that issue to suggest that agency heads like Leonhart may come to the job with fewer high-level political friends than say, a person like Leon Panetta. (Obviously, they all have some friends in high places.) My feeling is that those like Panetta are usually more inclined to go against the grain if their superiors are telling them to do something they don't want to do. As to Leonhart, I don't know enough about her to speculate as to whether she may or may not have been inclined to stand up to Justice Department officials. Time will tell as this mess continues to spill out on Capitol Hill.
Meanwhile, it is good to know that Holder is being subpoenaed back to testify. This plot is playing out faster than a bad B movie.

Perhaps Issa is beginning to inadvertently reveal that he is grasping for talking points, rather than pursuing a serious and well-founded inquiry for the good of our country. Now that Gary's beloved DEA is being implicated, perhaps Gary will begin to see this for what it is, no matter how much Gary enjoys finding ways to create embarrassment for the Obama administration. This is beginning to remind me of how Joe McCarthy shot himself in the foot when he went after the United States Army as a virtual communist front.
