In the latest tit-a-tat between Syria and the US, Syria has recalled its ambassador to the US after the American ambassador was recalled.

Not to worry, however. Hazem Chehabi, Syria's honorary consul in Newport Beach, will still remain. After all, as the head of the UC Irvine Foundation, he has an important mission on October 29 when he will bestow the UCI Medal on retired Vice Chancellor Manuel Gomez.

In case you didn't know, the UCI Medal is the highest award UC Irvine can bestow. It ranks right up there with the highest award Orange County can bestow. That would be the prestigious Rusty Award from the OC Human Relations Commisssion (pictured below).

To all besides the Muslims at UCI, Gomez resigned in disgrace after the mounting unhappiness over his lenient treatment of the MSU. ( Who quits after 27 years when they can skate into a 30 year pension?).
It was not a coincident that his last official act was to reduce the MSU probation sentence. It was typical of his years of forgiving their illegal activities. Most of the problems at UCI from the MSU can be attributed to Gomez.
Me thinks the Fouse might have a slight case of envy/jealousy for Hazem Chehabi since Mr. Chehabi has such a hot wife, while Mrs. Fouse is aging a bit.

I didn't catch the irony of this award until I read the link to the OC weekly. Chehabi is foul in that he assumes his wealth and background naturally grants him stewardship over syrians in the OC. Like the rusty award's progenitor, rusty kennedy, both these men assume a lofty position that allows them to periodically toss down lauds from their respective trees.
It is truly out of character that Gary hasn't drooled over the looks of the woman in the photo with the consul, and commented on what a total babe she is. It must be a measure of how seriously he takes this subject.
