Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas will be asking the UN next week to declare a Palestinian state in the disputed territories. He is apparently daring the US to cast a veto.

First of all, the official position of the US is favoring a 2 state solution with the borders being negotiated between the Israelis and Palestinians. That seems like a sound policy. It is irresponsible for Abbas to make this move and can only lead to increased tension in the region.
If Abbas wants to put the US in a corner, someone should remind him of the millions of dollars in aid we give them. This might be an opportune time to put those millions on the table. In other words, if he goes through with this move, we will veto it and stop giving aid to the Palestinians under Abbas' control.
In my view, they don't deserve it anyway. They were dancing in the streets on 9-11, and here we are essentially bribing them to (hopefully) make peace with Israel.
This is a good time to put Abbas in his place.

Abbas is testing Obama and his statement:"I will side with the Muslims..." Also, the OIC and the Communist block countries are thrilled to support the OIC, because it puts pressure on the U.S. and embarrasses Obama.
Squid
Mr. Gary Fouse.
Should the Jews not deserve a state too because Israeli Mossad agents were caught cheering on September 11th by the police?
First time I heard that. Why were they cheering?
Way to go, Nelly! You quote me a 9-11 Truther site which contains a story I hadn't heard before or since. Are you sure this didn't happen in Roswell, NM?
Even if true, if any israelis cheered 9-11, it would have been because they thought America would now recognize their true enemy. The palestinians cheered because thousands of Americans were dead.
Wise up!
It is about time someone pressed the U.S. government to take a firm stand. Israel has been burying its head in the sand like an ostrich and letting its best chances go by for several years. If it were my decision, the U.S. would vote in favor, because Israel needs a fire lit under it, diplomatically, before something more incendiary is lit by others.
We give Israel a lot of money too. In fact, last I looked, Israel is a subsidized state. Those who rely on welfare can't boast of their independence. What if we cut off ALL the money?
(Squid, your blatant lie has been exposed many times, not least by your own begrudging admission of the page of the book on which you claimed it appeared. You are not even in the same league as Joseph Goebbels: your repetition is not making you credible.)
Gary, IF it is true that Mossad cheered 9/11, and I agree that is far from verified, it WOULD be because they enjoyed seeing America take a hit that would work to their advantage. Israel DID bomb the Liberty, whatever excuses you may offer for it. They know darn well that their interests are not identical to ours, and each country is only using the other. Those in either nation who don't believe it qualify as "useful idiots" to one party or the other.
Siarlys,
I think I addressed the alleged reason the Mossad would cheer
9-11. Much like Britain might have cheered Pearl harbor. Palestinians cheered because 3,000 Americans died.
Britain, whatever their motives, would have been cheering for the destruction of the Arizona and all the deaths this caused. If the Mossad cheered, they cheered that 3000 people died too. They might have hoped that 3000 people dying would whip up emotions that they would find convenient, but cheering the event is cheering that 3000 died.
There's just one problem Siarlys. It is a documented and videotaped fact that many palestinians danced on 9-11. I am not yet convinced that this Mossad story is authentic.
And the Brits did not dance on 12-7-41.
I know for a fact that many native-born Americans were out talking on their cell phones on 9/11, saying "Yeah, come on over, we fine, they just after the white folks."
That does not mean that "many Americans" were doing so, nor does it mean that a significant portion of Americans of African descent were doing so.
Many Americans perpetrated the St. Valentine's Day massacre. Yassir Arafat donated blood for the victims of 9/11, and that doesn't make him your friend.
