Who Needs Camp David? We Have the Quai D'Orsay

We have Peace!!                     Long may it wave

The world celebrates today as the Palestinian government of Mahmoud Abbas announced that it has accepted the French invitation to attend a peace conference in Paris.

French Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the Quai D'Orsay in Paris

Yes, France, the defender of the Libyan people, the Leader of the Free World, will take the lead in bringing peace in our time to the Middle East (based on the pre-1967 borders as a negotiating starting point, which the French favor.)

"That's a big f-----' deal."

Yes, it is. Big enough even to push Weenergate off the front pages.

"That's a big f-----' deal."

Ahem. As I was saying...........

Once again, France has recaptured its previous glory recalling memories of when she hosted the World War I peace conference at Versailles.

Signing of World War I peace treaty 1919 in Paris

"Anybody got a pen?"

Now the names of French President Nicolas Sarkozy and Foreign Minister Alain Juppe will go down with the great names in French history as well as those of other great world leaders and diplomats who brought peace and had an impact on world history and foreign affairs.

Like Louis XV, for example (or one of them Louies)

As yet, there are no reports as to whether President Obama and Secretary of State Clinton will attend (or if they have even been invited).

With certitude, we can say that Sarkozy, Juppe and Abbas will receive the Nobel Peace Prize.

(Maybe even the prestigious Rusty Award from the Orange County Human Relations Commission. I suggest we send Commissioner Rusty Kennedy to Paris to attend the formal signing ceremony.)

The Rusty Award

As yet, there is no word on whether Israel will accept the invitation.

But no matter. The two greatest forces for good in the world (France and the Palestinian Authority) have taken the reins and will bring peace to the world!

Peace in our time!

Hmmmm! The World War I peace conference at Versailles. Didn't this treaty set up Germany for World War II? This treaty punished Germany to the point where desperation allowed Hitler to come to power. Thanks France. I question this move.

That's the one.

Sounds like another Durban conference.... PRE 1967 borders ... you can imagine how fair the conference will be. It was Israel that won that war.

If it were me, I would not attend unless and until the Palestinians publicly renounce and remove those articles in their charters (both Hamas and Fatah) that call for the destruction of Israel, including the resolution for continuing armed conflict. When the Palestinians recognize the state of Israel we will be able to begin negotiations. Without that minimal condition, there is no use proceeding. If it is going to be a peace conference, you can't have one side maintaining an objective of destroying the other side.

Well, somebody has to try. Bibi certainly isn't offering to host a peace conference. I think I read that the state of discussions with the current Israeli government is "if you don't give us anything to work with, we'll still try to defend you, but it won't be enough."

We should cut off all military sales and aid until the government agrees to sit down and deal. Any viable peace deal is going to be a matter of trading chips.

"We'll give you this... you give us that," and vice versa.
