Nancy Pelosi's Quote of the Week

"We have to pass this health care package so we can find out what's in it."

Here's a clue....

I realize you'll hide behind the "I'm just kidding" defense, but this is really dishonest. Here's what she said:

"You’ve heard about the controversies within the bill, the process about the bill, one or the other. But I don’t know if you have heard that it is legislation for the future, not just about health care for America, but about a healthier America, where preventive care is not something that you have to pay a deductible for or out of pocket. Prevention, prevention, prevention—it’s about diet, not diabetes. It’s going to be very, very exciting.

But we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it, away from the fog of the controversy."

Thanks for adding that, Lance. Now me and my friends are laughing even harder at the words of this dopey woman.

What's so dopey about that statement? Sure, she's said some dopey things before, but that seems pretty reasonable - and more importantly, it's completely different than the half-quote you gave.

It reminds me of how Sean Hannity got on Obama for supposedly "apologizing" for America, when if he had played the second part of what he said, it would have been clear that he was doing nothing of the sort.

I'm stickin to my guns on this one. The whole statement was dopey. The truth is no one knopws everything that's in this bill because they have not read iot. It's some 2000 pages long.

And Obama did apologize for the sins of america overseas.

That's really vague. You're not even addressing what she said.

And Obama did apologize for the sins of america overseas.

Bullcrap.

I would give a more detailed reason why I say that, but it would fall on deaf ears. So, I shall just repeat: Bullcrap.

Lance,

If you want to make the case for Nancy Pelosi by saying "Bullcrap", knock yourself out.

Lance Christian Johnson said...

I'm not making the case for her - but honestly, me saying "bullcrap" is at least somewhat more specific than what you wrote. I think that it's a step up from your level of criticism, actually. (On this matter - you tend to be more articulate for the most part.)

I was referring to the thing about Obama apologizing. That's bullcrap. He was saying something thoughtful and nuanced, and I'm beginning to understand that conservative ideology consists of taking nuanced arguments and boiling them down into simplistic soundbites.

Lance,

You don't seem to grasp the big picture that Pelosi is ramming something down our throats that we don't want. As for Obama, the thing is that Americans are tired after all the years of supporting the rest of the world of being blamed for the shortcomings of others. That's why Obama's apologies have struck a nerve.

Lance Christian Johnson said...

Ha! You actually said "ramming down our throats"! Good job on keeping up with the conservative cliche of the day!

That's why Obama's apologies have struck a nerve.

This would be a good point if he was apologizing...but he wasn't. What has happened is that conservative pundits, unable to grasp what he was actually saying, have interpreted it into an apology. Then they keep repeating the talking point that he supposedly "apologized". That's what's striking the nerve.
