And of course, right in the thick of things are those Saudis who throw their money around to influence various American institutions, you know like politics and universities. Add to that the Friends of Saudi Arabia (whoever they are) Dubai, Oman, Qatar and you get the picture. You think that has any influence on State Department decision-making on Middle Eastern matters?
