Afghanistan and the West

 

It was just last month that President Biden was assuring us that there was no way that Afghanistan and its capital, Kabul, were going to collapse like  Saigon did back in the 1970s. It was just this week that State Department press spokesman Ned Price was blabbering on about some meeting the US had led in Doha, Qatar (of all places) consisting of the US, EU, and Britain, as well as other world powers like Tajikistan and Turkmenistan(!), in which "the international community spoke loud and clear with one voice that a military solution in Afghanistan was unacceptable".

Well, notwithstanding the assurances of Old Joe and Mr. Price, it has happened. Kabul has fallen, the president (of Afghanistan) is running for his life, and once again, the Dark Ages descends on Afghanistan, the unconquerable basket case of the world. As I write, we don't even know if we can get all our diplomats and other civilian staff out of the country without being slaughtered by the bloodthirsty Islamic savages of the Taliban. Once again, this God-forsaken land will be run by a bunch of fanatical mullahs who, when they are not butchering people, are raping women and having sex with young boys. The halftime shows at soccer stadiums where wayward women are executed will return. Afghanistan will again be a sanctuary for Al Qaida and ISIS as well.

As I have stated before, we should have left that place a long time ago, certainly once Usama bin Laden was killed. I don't fault Biden for deciding that enough was enough in Afghanistan, but the universal reaction is that he chose to do so in an abrupt and disorganized manner which caught everyone off guard-except the Taliban, of course.

The immediate concern is to get our personnel out of the country safely as well as those Afghans who worked with us. Other Western countries that involved themselves in Afghanistan have the same concern. Unfortunately, Europe (if not the US) can now expect a massive wave of refugees in the hundreds of thousands, if not millions. Many, if not most, will be single, young men in their 20s, freeloaders, and jihadists. They will bring with them a culture that has no place in the West. The results have already been seen in countries like Germany, Austria, Sweden, and others. Already Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and France have stopped deporting Afghan criminals back home due to the situation in Afghanistan. At a time when European borders are being overrun by young men from mostly Muslim countries, the explosion is about to get much worse.

The carnage that has already begun in Afghanistan should be a wake-up call to the West to secure its borders. But how many wake-up calls have we already had in the last several decades? The European governments (at least in Western Europe) will cave as they always do. More Europeans will fall victim to Afghan murderers, rapists, and jihadists. Here in the US, Biden will follow the advice of his puppet-masters and bring in untold thousands of Afghan refugees.

I am certainly no geo-political expert, but the way I see it, democracy is living on borrowed time. The left rules Western Europe, and the Democrats are in charge here at home. Canada up north? Don't even ask. The way I see it, China and Russia will be left to carve up the spoils. Eventually, one or both of them will have to confront Islam to maintain their control of the world. That battle will be decided by who has the most will-something the West has proven it doesn't have.

Thank God I won't live to see it (or will I?)

Chemerinsky Law (and Math)

UC Berkeley Law School Dean Erwin Chemerinsky is (for some unknown reason) considered one of the country's foremost constitutional experts. Nevertheless, his legal opinions always seem to come down to favor of the liberal side of issues. My greatest fear is that with someone like Old Joe in the White House, Chemo is probably on the shortlist for any Supreme Court vacancies.

So with a recall election looming next month for California Governor Gavin Newsom, Chemo has decided to weigh in-in the New York Times, no less. It is his considered opinion, along with UCB Law School professor Aaron Edlin, that the recall is unconstitutional. That's where the math comes in. With numerous Republican candidates on the ballot as replacements to Newsom, the esteemed professors argue that Newsom will likely get more votes than any of the other candidates.

Here's how it works.

"Imagine that 10 million people vote in the recall election and 5,000,001 vote to remove Mr. Newsom, while 4,999,999 vote to keep him in office. He will then be removed and the new governor will be whichever candidate gets the most votes on the second question. In a recent poll, the talk show host Larry Elder was leading with 18 percent among the nearly 50 candidates on the ballot. With 10 million people voting, Mr. Elder would receive the votes of 1.8 million people. Mr. Newsom would have the support of almost three times as many voters, but Mr. Elder would become the governor."

The problem with that logic is that this is a two-part election. The first question for the voters is whether Newsom should be removed from office. If a majority says no, the second question (who should replace him) is moot. It doesn't matter who else got how many votes. Only if a majority votes to replace Newsom does the second part come into play.

Of course, the favored remedy of the two Berkeley legal minds is for the courts to step in and declare the entire recall process unconstitutional and throw it out. As they themselves say, "The stakes for California are enormous, not only for who guides us through our current crises — from the pandemic to drought, wildfires and homelessness —".

Yes, indeed. Though it is a political consideration as opposed to a legal one, Governor Newsom has "guided" us through so many crises, blah blah blah-that's why we are having a recall to begin with. He has been an unmitigated disaster. But never mind. By throwing his two cents worth in, Chemerinsky is positioning himself for that phone call from Old Joe if that Supreme Court vacancy comes up.

Swedish Justice (Chapter Umpteenth)

Kidnapped, tortured, and raped women in Malmo-receives 840,000 Swedish kronors in damages

Domestic- It will be the jackpot for the then 18-year-old Arab who, in 2018, was sentenced to 4.5 years in prison for having, together with his brother, kidnapped, tortured, and gang-raped two young women in Malmo. Damir Ali Ali now gets 840,000 kronors in damages because he was sentenced for the crime despite being a child, TT reports.

One woman was kidnapped by the brothers and raped while being strangled.

A few weeks later, the brothers attacked another woman, who was kidnapped and taken to a cellar where they tortured and raped her under the threat of a gun.

The younger of the two Arab brothers was sentenced by the appellate court to 4-1/2 years in prison for among others, kidnapping, aggravated rape, theft, extortion, unlawful use and driving. The older brother got 7 years in prison.

The younger Arab then applied for a review because he claimed that he was under 18 when the crime was committed. The question had already been tried by the appellate court with the same evidence, but the high court still granted the review and concluded in February 2020 that the man was not over 18 at the time of the crime. 

Thus, the man receives 840,000 kronors from the taxpayers since, according to JK's*damages decision, he has received an excessively "hard punishment for his age."

The amount will go to the man even though he would have been sentenced to a long custodial punishment even if he really was 17 years old. More specifically, JK believes that the man has been behind bars 14 months too long. 

That the man actually committed the bestial kidnappings and torture-rapes has no meaning.

"She did not want to get pregnant with an 'F-ing Muslim', and told them to at least use a condom,' states the district court's account of what one of the women said when she realized what the brothers were going to do to her"

It remains to be seen if Sweden will charge the woman for insulting.

Mob Justice in Algeria

Recently, Algeria has been hit with a series of wildfires that have cost 69 lives. It is believed the fires were deliberately set. A video has surfaced showing a mob forcibly taking a suspected arsonist from police, beating him, and setting him on fire. There is some question as to whether the man was truly guilty of setting fires or was completely innocent.

The National Prosecutor's Office has issued a statement to the effect that an investigation has been opened into the incident. Citizen lynched and burned alive at Larbaa Nath Irathen: The prosecutor orders opening of an investigation

The prosecutor of the Republic at the tribunal of Larbaa Nath Irathen (Court of Tuzi-Ouzou) last Thursday ordered the opening of an investigation into the circumstances of the death of a citizen lynched and burned alive in the region of Larbaa Nath Irathen following suspicions of his involvement in the forest fires that have ravaged the region.

"After videos circulated on social media, Wednesday, August 11, showing the murder of a citizen        (mortally burned and lynched), the prosecutor of the Republic at the Tribunal of Larbaa Nath Irathen informs the public, in conformance with Article 11 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, as follows: "A group of citizens apprehended three persons who were in a vehicle, following their suspicion of being implicated in the forest fires that broke out in the region of Larbaa Nath Irathen. After being attacked, police intervened to rescue them, and they were transferred to the police headquarters," the communique of the prosecutor of the Republic at the Tribunal of Larbaa Nath Irathen reads.

"However, the same group continued to attack the police headquarters with violence and succeeded in removing one of the three individuals from the police station and dragging him outside, beating him and burning him, this leading to his death. The police officers who intervened to protect the victim and rescue him were also subjected to injuries," the same source added. 

The prosecutor has ordered the Judicial Police to open an investigation into the circumstances of this matter, with the objective of identifying the perpetrators and bringing them to justice, so that they be severely punished, in conformance with the law, and that this hateful crime does not go unpunished. The public will be informed of the results of the investigation," the same source concludes.

While we are unable to translate it, one cry is audible over and over: "Allahu Akhbar!" Why am I showing it? Because thanks to open borders, this is what is pouring now into Europe.

More "Solidarity" at UCLA

Recently, I posted an article about how the UCLA Department of Asian-American Studies was scheduling a class on "Palestine" that was blatantly biased in its condemnation of Israel and promotion of the pro-Palestinian narrative. 

In addition, the same department at UCLA has posted a statement in solidarity with the Palestinians vis-a-vis Israel. That has drawn sharp criticism from a group of UCLA professors who point out that while the department and its professors have the right of free speech, they are violating university policy by putting the entire department, if not the university itself, behind a political position. They have written a letter of protest to University of California President Michael Drake.

I agree fully with the letter to Drake. Those individuals within the Asian-American Studies Department who drafted and signed that statement are free to feel any way they wish and say whatever they wish about the Israel-Palestinian conflict or any other issue. But even if such statement expresses the unanimous opinion of every single individual in the department, are they free to put the university stamp of approval on that opinion-or to imply such? No. Standing in solidarity with the Palestinians is not the official policy of the University of California or UCLA.

I say let these Asian-American Studies activists climb onto their soapboxes and say whatever they want, but they should make their statements and sign their letters as individuals. 

Europe's Problem With Morocco

The below article in the Dutch news outlet, EW Magazine, (Elsevier Weekblad) is written by Leon Baten of the conservative-leaning JA 21 party in the Netherlands. It is part of a series of articles in EW by young writers (Baten is apparently only 19).

In this article, Baten discusses the recent actions by the government of Morocco to use migration as a blackmail tool against the EU by allowing illegal migrants to pass through its territory and border with Spain, thus, allowing access into EU territory and being able to request asylum.

Given the fact that the Netherlands is plagued by a large and restive Moroccan population, including the infamous and deadly Moroccan Mafia (Mocro-Maffia), this issue is important for the Netherlands, as well as the other countries in the EU. In the case of the Netherlands, it is my understanding that Morocco refuses to accept their own criminals whom the Netherlands wishes to deport. Given the Schengen rules, is it a stretch to predict that many of the Moroccans crossing at Ceuta and Melilla will eventually find their way to the Netherlands, where they likely have family and/or criminal contacts? Keep in mind that the overwhelming majority of those crossing into those Spanish enclaves are young, single men. There is no need to ask, even sarcastically, "What could possibly go wrong?"

While Greece and Italy are always struggling with the inflow of illegal immigration, the European border with Spain is also certainly not watertight. There the Moroccan government uses migration as a weapon to blackmail the EU, writes Leon Baten in an article for EW Podium.

Monday, 17 May 2021. An exceptionable day in the Spanish port city of Ceuta. There is panic, the air raid siren sounds. Where the Spanish coast is known for its nightlife, tapas, and the sun, in Ceuta, it is a different story. This Spanish enclave on the North African continent, situated on the Strait of Gibraltar, has fallen prey to an unprecedented invasion. At the break of dawn, 8,000 asylum-seekers begin their storming of Europe at the Spanish city of 84,000 residents. Thousands of men climb over the fences, sail boats onto the beaches, and run into the city. They found a weak spot in the European border: The Moroccan-Spanish border at Ceuta.

Schengen in Africa

In recent years, Spanish Ceuta, bordering Morocco, has become part of the new western asylum route. A couple of hundred kilometers further lies Melilla, the other Spanish enclave in Africa. bordering on Morocco.

As autonomous cities, they are part of the EU, albeit with a number of important exceptions. EU regulations pertaining to Customs policy and the common commercial policies do not apply to Ceuta and Melilla, same with the free traffic of goods and the European fishing and agricultural policies. On the other hand, there are no exemptions, deviations, or exceptions regarding immigration under EU-law, so that in Ceuta and Melilla the same EU legal framework applies as in the rest of Spain.

Whenever an asylum-seeker sets foot in Ceuta or Melilla, then that is automatically on European territory. And one foot on European territory means the right to an asylum procedure. Asylum procedures that sometimes last years and with which the Spanish government has its hands full. Many asylum-seekers are sent back, but with certain groups, including minors, in practice, that is much harder.

The situation is precarious. When the two mini-enclaves are overrun by refugees, Europe is effectively overrun. But Spain logically doesn't worry about giving up Ceuta and Melilla, which from an EU point of view, would be very appealing. Ceuta and Melilla are free ports and thus, an important factor in Spanish commerce.

Moroccan Blackmail

Back to May 17 this year. Under the rising sun, it seems like a peaceful morning in Ceuta. But Spain and Morocco are on a collision course with each other after the Spanish government offered humanitarian help to the escaped leader of Polisario- an independence movement that is in fierce resistance to the regime of Mohammed VI and fights for an independent Western Sahara.

That conflict roughly disturbs the morning calm: By the border crossings on the coast, dozens of North African migrants literally swim to Europe in the water. The Moroccan Coast Guard stands there and looks on. "Everywhere Moroccan and migrants from other parts of Africa walk around helplessly while tanks drive through the streets. I've never seen anything like this before. Here in Ceuta, we are paying the price for an international conflict between Morocco and Spain," one resident tells a Spanish journalist. 

Since the peak in May, things have only gotten worse in the Spanish enclaves. Two weeks ago, it happened again, this time in Melilla. An estimated 300 North African migrants stormed the border fences, (and) a majority reached Europe.

There are countless examples of incidents that are traced back to deliberate blackmail by a furious Morocco, who decided to open the gates to Europe, with all the results that ensue. Moroccan border guards show the migrants the way. And they come. Thousands at a time. 

The Turkey deal and other migration routes

In 2016, the EU made a deal with Turkey to tackle the refugee crisis. In exchange for 6 billion euros and reception of up to 72,000 Syrians in Europe, Turkey would ensure better reception (procedures) and contain the flow of immigrants. With the deal, Erdogan got a new blackmail tool in his hands. At the end of 2019, he blackmailed the EU: money or else the borders will open. Despite the many downsides, the deal had an effect: The refugee route via Turkey became less popular. More migrants and human smugglers went to look for other routes.

Increasingly more asylum-seekers attempted to make the crossing through Libya to Italy, sometimes with deadly results. Southern Italian port cities and Greek islands were overrun by illegal immigrants. In addition, the route through Morocco was considered an interesting option. As stated, the Moroccan regime, like Erdogan, used its border fences as political blackmail and encouraged asylum-seekers to come. A poisonous cocktail of blackmail, despair, and frustration begins to form in the Strait of Gibraltar.

The European Union saw the storm brewing in 2014 and made a deal with Morocco. A questionable deal with little effect. Since then, in exchange for closing the borders, the North African country receives about 130 million euros a year in EU subsidies. Subsidies without conditions, it turns out. Morocco gets the money because it is in the European Neighborhood Program. That has as its goal to improve the security and prosperity of EU-neighbor counties. Of all concerned countries, Morocco receives the most money from the Union.

Do we allow ourselves to be humiliated by Morocco like this?

Instead of a workable deal, a power-play ensued. Morocco is deliberately playing a dangerous game with the entry ports of the Schengen zone. And the EU? It looks on shocked and indignant but at the same time, paralyzed. The Spanish government decided to take action itself and signed an accord with Morocco, in which it states that anyone who reaches Spanish territory swimming from Morocco can be sent back.

While the security and prosperity of the EU member states are at stake, and Morocco wilfully fails to fulfill its obligations, the yearly deposit of EU money goes on. Morocco is the one laughing in the diplomatic row. The Dutch state secretary, Ankie Broekers-Knol, was flatly refused a meeting in 2019 by Morocco itself, and weeks later, once again made a fool of by the Moroccan ambassador after he canceled the meeting for the second time. Do we allow ourselves to be so humiliated by a country where so much EU aid goes?

Not permit  migration to become the new weapon

It is now time to get on with it. But really. Time for EU subsidies to be frozen until Morocco is ready to talk. What the Netherlands can do in the meantime is suspend landing rights for Moroccan flights. That's how the EU and the Netherlands can show they are not happy with the Moroccan power plays at the cost of our outer borders.

Moreover, a hard approach to the asylum invasion and the Moroccan help is also necessary out of solidarity with the people of Ceuta and Melilla. While successful border stormers make their aggressive cries and songs of joy reverberate through the Spanish enclaves, it becomes painfully clear that the EU has a colossal problem. 

Experts are already warning: Migration is becoming the new weapon. Turkey under Erdogan already knew this, and now the Moroccan government is realizing it: The weak ports of Europe provide a powerful weapon to bring the EU to its knees. And as long as we are not prepared to take a hard approach and an appropriate policy to send the Moroccans back, this migration war is only in its infancy.

Cuomo Exits

Two jerks

So Andrew  Cuomo has finally resigned as governor in New York. Typically, he went out with a classless statement saying he was doing it for New York. Nonsense. He was doing it for himself and to avoid an impeachment process, which he would certainly have lost and in which all the sordid details would have been played out in the New York State Legislature.

Even more classless was the below: 

"I have slipped and called people ‘honey, ’sweetheart' and ‘darling.’ I mean it to be endearing but women found it dated and offensive," he continued. "I take full responsibility for my actions. I have been too familiar with people. My sense of humor can be insensitive and off-putting."

"In my mind, I've never crossed the line with anyone, but I didn't realize the extent to which the line has been redrawn," he added. "There are generational and cultural shifts that I just didn't fully appreciate. And I should have, no excuses."

This day didn't come about because Cuomo is accused of calling some female "honey" or "sweetheart" or because he gave some lady a hug she deemed inappropriate. He is accused of groping the private areas of several women. I don't know if he is actually guilty of this or not. He denies those allegations. But it is those allegations that have brought Cuomo to this resignation. Those were standards when he was growing up. Men may have loosely used the terms "sweetheart" or "honey" with women they were not in a relationship with, but the kind of groping of private parts that are alleged would have earned a man a good slap in the face and/or an ass-kicking by the woman's boyfriend, brother, or husband back in the old days. That kind of behavior has always been inappropriate-if not illegal- and he knows it.

Andrew Cuomo is a man who obviously let his power get the best of him. The media and Hollywood made him into a hero for his "handling" of the Covid crisis. Then it was revealed that under his direction, thousands of infected people were moved into nursing homes, with predictable catastrophic results.

And all the while, there was Andrew Cuomo hamming it up with his brother, Chris on CNN (giant swab and all)  like we were going through the roaring 20s or something rather than a tragic pandemic. And for months, Chris has been ignoring his brother's scandal on-air while condemning Trump every day or trashing Ron DeSantis, the governor of Florida-who as far as I know has not been harassing any females.

And speaking of Fredo, that loudmouth jerk brother of his, one can only hope that the woke bosses at CNN will wake up (no pun intended) and question the propriety of a news anchor promoting his embattled politician brother on-air and even composing talking points for him to be given out to the public in his defense.

I have never seen the standards for politicians so low as they are today. The same goes for our news media. The Cuomo brothers exemplify both in a nutshell. Mario Cuomo (their late father) must be turning in his grave.

Those Afghan Refugees (Cont)

Just two days ago, I wrote a posting on the situation in Afghanistan and predicted that tens of thousands more Afghans were going to migrate to the West due to the deteriorating war situation.

Looks like I underestimated the numbers greatly. A German aid worker, who has long years of experience in Afghanistan, is predicting up to 3 million will be on their way to Europe.

Her interview with a German news site has been picked up by the conservative Swedish site, Nyheter Idag. We have translated their article below.

Aid workers warn: Up to three million Afghans will migrate to Europe

The German aid worker Sybille Schnehage, in an interview with German site WSR, warns that three million Afghans may migrate to Europe if the situation in the nation doesn't improve. Schnehage has worked with humanitarian aid in Afghanistan since the 1980s, and in 1994, founded the organization, Katachel, which, among other things, has helped establish 31 schools in Afghanistan.

"One can assume that up to 3 million Afghans will come to Europe within the foreseeable future," Schnehage says to WDR and continues:

"I always ask people: 'Why won't you go to Saudi Arabia, where there are Muslims, it is your culture. The answer is always, 'No, Germany is better."

"Yes, we absolutely must help Afghans build a future in the countryside. If not, the consequences for Germany and Europe are predictable," says Schnehage.

In the interview, Schnehage also says that lawlessness is a bigger problem for the Afghan people than the Taliban, and that aid organizations like hers can work with the Taliban in the areas where they hold power.

"I have operated girls' schools under Taliban rule. The foremost problem has always been security. How do we get girls to school unharmed? In the Afghan countryside, there are many young men without work and cannot afford to buy a wife. It costs at least 5,000 euros."

"Because of this, girls are often kidnapped, including on the way to school. The Taliban says that girls must be safe. If we can guarantee that they can get to school safely, they have no problem with certain education, up to about the 6th grade," says Schnehage.

Schnehage raises good questions. Why are none of these people going to more nearby Muslim countries? The answer is they don't want to, and these countries, rich as they may be, are not accepting anybody. The migrants themselves prefer countries in Europe, like Germany, Sweden, or the Netherlands, where social welfare is generous.

Perhaps unintentionally,  Schnehage also gives us reasons not to accept any and all Afghans-with the notable exception of those who assisted the various international armed forces who fought in that country. I specifically refer to the last two paragraphs in the translated article above. Is this really a culture we want to import into our free, democratic societies, still working to ensure full rights for women, gays, and minorities? Hardly. All we need to do is look at the performance of far too many young, unaccompanied Afghan males in countries like Austria, Germany, and Sweden.

Three million more Afghans in Europe? Wow.

Mali: Another Islamic Terror Attack on Villagers

Innocent African villagers continue to be attacked and senselessly slaughtered by Islamic State groups in parts of Africa, like Mali. Here is the latest death count from Mali, where, on Sunday, three villagers were attacked by terrorists. The death toll in three villages is 51.

Murder of a priest in Vendee: What we know

A priest was killed Monday in Saint-Laurent-sur-Sevre, in Vendee, by the man he had taken in. This Rwandan, age 40, had already been prosecuted for the fire of the Nantes cathedral a year ago. An investigation for "voluntary homicide" is open.

Father Olivier Maire was killed at Saint-Laurent-sur-Sevres, in the northeast part of the Vendee Department. A man surrendered himself Monday morning at 9:15 to the Gendarmerie of a neighboring municipality to confess to the murder, then was placed in custody. This 40-year-old had already been known to the police, implicated in the fire at the Nantes cathedral in July 2020.

A judicial investigation for "voluntary homicide" has been opened and assigned to the Investigative Brigade at La Roche-sur-Yon and the Investigative Section of Nantes. The terrorist trail has been ruled out, for now, Asst. Prosecutor of La Roche-sur-Yon, Yannick Le Goater stated during a news conference. 

The priest "victim of his generosity"

The police discovered the body of the victim in a room of the premises of the community of the Missionary Brothers of Montfortain, a congregation present in about 30 countries, oriented towards charity and hospitality. The modus operandi of the crime and the exact time of the crime are not yet known. According to a police source of the Agence France Presse, the priest died after receiving blows, but the autopsy will determine the causes of death.

According to the Ministry of Interior, the man was subject to an expulsion order, but he could not be expelled from French territory until judicial control was lifted. He also had an appeal in progress before the administrative tribunal. A piece of information that was confirmed by the asst. prosecutor of La Roche-sur-Yon: "His presence in France was deemed necessary for this procedure in progress."
