Free Speech and Inclusion at Stanford: David Palumbo-Liu

Stanford University is back in the news this week, and for all the wrong reasons as usual. We begin with an article by Aaron Bandler running this week in the Jewish Journal (of Los Angeles). The article charges that Stanford, through its diversion and inclusion program (an indoctrination endeavor in itself) is singly out Jewish students as simply being in the category of white and privileged, which is contributing to even more anti-Semitism in addition to that brought about by the pro-Palestinian/anti-Israel forces.

Also running this week in the Stanford Daily is yet another piece by Stanford professor David Palumbo-Liu, who seems to be a regular contributor to the Daily. Palumbo-Liu is a two-trick pony. When he is not crusading against Israel, he is trying to run the conservative Hoover Institution off-campus. Yet here he is in another op-ed attacking the Hoover Institution and the Stanford College Republicans while at the same time complaining about the lack of free speech on campus for liberals, a joke in itself since liberals rule the roost at Stanford as they do in universities across the country.

 Poor little Prof. Palumbo-Liu. One would think after reading this pathetic piece that conservatives were in charge in our universities when exactly the opposite is the case. Palumbo-Liu is worried about his freedom of speech even though he has a free platform at the SD for his regular attacks against the Hoover Institution, which he wants to shut down.

Too bad the learned professor is not as concerned for Stanford's Jewish students. Like so many other universities, Stanford has become a hostile environment for Jewish students largely thanks to groups like Students for Justice in Palestine, which Liu wholeheartedly supports. In reality, he is just another one of those dime-a-dozen anti-Israel propagandists who infest our universities like mosquitos infest swamps. Meanwhile, the rare speakers who come to defend Israel or America on a university campus can expect to have their speeches disrupted by the friends of Professor Palumbo-Liu.

Palumbo-Liu, indeed, has the right of free speech, which he regularly employs at Stanford and elsewhere. Not only does he not respect that same right for others, but he turns truth on its head when he tries to make the case that it is liberals like himself who are being victimized and having their First Amendment rights threatened in academia.

Italy: Man Beheaded in Turin

Turin (Torino)

Another unhappy story of marriage in Italy. In the northern city of Turin (Torino), a Bangladeshi guy named Mohammed beheaded another Bangladeshi guy named Mohamed. The reason had something to do with money that the killer had paid to the victim to arrange a marriage that never came through. Beheaded at home in Turin, police arrest a man at the station: Knife also found

Mohamed Ibrahim, 25-year-old Bangladeshi beheaded last night in Corso Francia, at Turin, was killed for economic reasons. The victim, reportedly spent the money- about 4,000 euros- that the killer, Mohammed Mostafa, 24, also from Bangladesh, had given him in exchange for a promise of marriage not kept. The perpetrator of the homicide was arrested at the Porta Nuova Station. The search of (Mostafa) led to the seizure of clothing and other items of evidence, including a large kitchen knife used as the murder weapon.

Italy: Italian Media Interviews Muslim Community About Saman Abbas Case

As Italian police in Novellara (Reggio Emilia) continue their search for the body of Saman Abbas, the media has shown video of her parents at Milan's Malpensa Airport as they boarded a plane to Pakistan two days after their daughter was last seen. You can view the video at the RAI link here. (There is no sound.) Note that when the pair lower their face masks for identification, they seem not to have a care in the world. It is believed Saman was killed by family members just two days previous.

Meanwhile, in Rome, the LA 7  news outlet went out on the street and conducted interviews with members of Rome's Muslim community about their views on the Saman case and forced marriages. The below video is translated by Fousesquawk.

France: The Strasbourg Mosque Project (Cont)

Recently, we posted a report about the construction of a mega-mosque in Strasbourg, France. In addition to funding from Turkey and Qatar, the city of Strasbourg, led by the Green Party, is also providing public funds. Since Strasbourg is the seat of the European Parliament, the symbolism of having this huge mega-mosque could not be greater. Italian Member of the European Parliament, Silvia Sardone, a member of the center-right Lega Party in Italy (Milan), is a strong critic of this project and has made a video clip in front of the structure under construction.

 

Any project funded by the governments of Turkey and Qatar must be viewed with suspicion, and this is no exception. Qatar is a supporter of the Muslim Brotherhood while Turkey, under Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has done nothing but stir up a radical form of Islam among the Turkish diaspora in Western Europe. To add insult to injury, the residents of Strasbourg also have to chip in to help build this mosque. Hopefully, it will not turn out to be a center of hate and radicalism, but with Qatar and Turkey behind it, I am skeptical.

Italy: Anatomy of an "Honor Killing"

Italy is still reeling over the apparent murder of an 18-year-old Pakistani girl at the hands of her family because she was Westernized and refused to marry a cousin in Pakistan in an arranged marriage.

Saman Abbas had been at odds with her parents, identified as Shabbar Abbas and Nazia Shaheen, over the issue, and at one point months ago, had sought shelter from social services. She spent four months in a protective home but recently returned back home. By some accounts, she was attempting to retrieve her passport. 

At any rate, almost a month ago, Saman disappeared from the family home, located on a farm in the province of Reggio Emilia. At the same time, her family also left the home. The parents flew to Pakistan, while her 16-year-old brother, an uncle, and 2 cousins also left the area. Picked up at the French border, the younger brother has reportedly implicated the uncle, identified as Hasnain Danish (33) as the killer. Danish reportedly convinced the parents that an honor killing was the only solution to the problem with Saman.

In addition, surveillance cameras at the farm have captured images of three men and Saman walking from the farmhouse to the nearby fields. The men are captured returning, but Saman is not seen again. The previous evening, three men, one with a shovel, are captured by the camera walking to the fields. The theory is that the men dug a hole the night before, and then took Saman to the field the following evening where Danish reportedly strangled Saman then buried her in the pre-dug hole. Police are now extensively searching the large area of farmland.

The Italian news media has contacted the father, Shabbar, by phone in Pakistan. He denies any killing and insists his daughter is alive and well in Belgium. The police are certain that Saman is not in Belgium, but has been killed.

In addition to the parents, Danish and the previously-mentioned cousins, Nomanulhaq Nomanulhaq (33) and Ijaz Ikram (28) are identified as suspects. Ikram was arrested in France and returned to Italy where he is now in custody while Nomanulhaq is believed to still be in Europe.

After so many hours spent with his two lawyers to "fine-tune the defense strategy", here is the result: " I avail myself of the right not to respond." Ikram Ijaz, 28, cousin of Saman Abbas, yesterday, passed the  translated sentence to the interpreter who relayed it to gip and to the prosecutor who are investigating the disappearance of the 18-year-old Pakistani, killed by a family conspiracy and made to disappear who knows where.  For about one and a half months, her cadaver has been searched for in the fields around the agriculture business, "Le Valli" at Novellara (Reggio-Emilia) where the Abbas family lived and where the young girl was seen for the last time April 29. 

Yesterday was supposed to be the day of truth; it was, instead, the day of silence. The 28-year-old is accused of premeditated homicide (with others) and hiding a cadaver together with the uncle, Danish Hasnain (suspected of having materially strangled Saman), along with another cousin, Nomanulhaq Nomanulhaq, and the parents of the victim: the father, Shabbar Abbas and the mother, Nazia Shaheen. All four are fugitives. (The parents have fled to Pakistan, the other two are in flight in Europe.) Ikram Ijaz, the only one of those charged in jail, is one of the three who, on April 30 was captured by a security telecamera as they walked away from the Abbas farmhouse carrying a shovel, crowbar, bucket, and plastic bags. The prosecutorial hypothesis is that the three (Ijaz, the other cousin, and the uncle) were going to bury the remains of Saman. A reconstruction of which Ijaz yesterday laconically distanced himself saying that (he) "had nothing to do with Saman's disappearance". But then what was he doing in that film? Why did he then flee to France? Two key questions that Ijaz would have been able to answer dispelling any doubt about his involvement in a crime hatched by the same parents of Saman to punish the daughter, "guilty" of not having accepted an "arranged marriage" and of not comporting herself as a "good Muslim". Instead, Ijaz-arrested May 29 in France and extradited to Italy last week- in the face-to-face with the investigators in the Reggio Emilia jail, did not respond to the questions while pointing out that he was "willing to cooperate". His lawyers note: " He has shown the intention of making more in-depth statements to the prosecutor in the coming days". Then why not begin doing so immediately? The dilatory technique is a classic (technique) of the defense to understand what the prosecution has in hand: Taking time (stalling) is considered by defendants as an almost obligatory strategy. Still, in this case, the evidentiary picture is quite defined, and to crystalize it completely, only the discovery of the body of Saman is missing. ( But that is not a small detail.). But this sentence, terrible, spoken by one of the charged- "We have done a good work (job)"- is there to demonstrate how difficult it will be to recover the remains of the girl. Up to now, cadaver dogs and georadar have not obtained the hoped-for result. It is not excluded that the cadaver could have been dissected in several parts and hidden in various places.

Meanwhile, the lawyers of the only charged person in jail (the parents of Saman have fled to Pakistan, while the uncle and the other cousin of the victim are fugitives in another country) maintain that their client "does not understand Italian well," and therefore, for this reason, the time of "cooperation" risks "becoming longer". The feeling instead is that Ijaz knows a lot-if not everything-of the sad fate of Saman. But that he has decided, at least for now, to keep his mouth shut. Perhaps, because of fear of revenge. Perhaps, because he wants "guarantees". Or perhaps, more simply, because he has no conscience.

Sweden: Will They Have to Send in the Military to Sweden's 2nd-Largest City?

Henning Mankell

The late Henning Mankell was one of Sweden's most famous crime novelists. His most famous creation was Inspector Kurt Wallander, a  mythical murder detective in the southern Swedish city of Ystad. The novels have been made into several TV series both in Swedish and English. Being a student of Swedish, I have watched every episode of all the series. One of the episodes concerns the occupation of Ystad by the Swedish army in response to suspected Muslim terrorism in the city. Of course, being politically correct, the suspected Muslim terrorists turn out to be innocent, and the villain turns out to be one of the military commanders, a dangerous, right-wing nationalist who wanted to use the occupation for his own nefarious purposes. You know the type. Today, Henning Mankell would be turning over in his grave because all that may become reality in Gothenburg, and there is no Mankell surprise ending that turns reality on its head.

For the past couple of weeks, we have been reporting on gang violence in Gothenburg, Sweden's second-largest city. These, of course, are not Sweden gangs, rather immigrant gangs fighting each other for control of territory for their criminal enterprises. One of the gangs involved is a bunch called the  Hjällbo Network, named after a suburb of Gothenburg which is under their control. (They even operate roadblocks.) The leader of this pack is some old guy named Ali Khan, who washed up on Sweden's shores from Lebanon some years ago.

Now, a local politician wants to deploy the military. It is that bad. Imagine in Sweden they are now talking about sending in the military to the second-largest city in the country.

And everybody laughed at Trump when he spoke about the mess in Sweden.

M(oderate Party) in Gothenburg. Send in the military against the gang

Gothenburg: After recent serious violence in the Gothenburg suburb of Hjällbo, Hampus Magnussen, municipal counselor (M) in Gothenburg, is proposing that the military should be deployed against gang criminals in a motion voted through by Moderates in Western Sweden. In the autumn, the proposal will be considered at the Moderates party meeting.

"We have a police authority that is under enormous pressure and in many ways is at a disadvantage. So we think that the military can support them in many tasks where they have relevant training, such as setting up roadblocks and searching vehicles," says Hampus Magnusson to Dagens Samhälle.

Presently, the Swedish military cannot be used on the grounds that "there is a risk that it could use force or violence against individuals," according to the provision on defense forces support to civilian activity, something the Moderates in Western Sweden want to change.

"It is my absolute judgment that there must be a change in legislation. What is happening today in Sweden where individual policemen's homes are being fired at, and there are explosions at police stations, is the domestic terrorism of our times," says Magnussen to Dagens Samhälle.

Magnusson's proposal is supported by the municipal board chairman in Gothenburg, Axel Josefson (M).

"This is a way that can help the absolutely acute police shortage we have in Sweden, where we want to go back to a system where you can use emergency police who can support the police in special incidents, and it will naturally be under police leadership," says Josefson to Expressen.

With Friends Like J Street, Who Needs Hamas?

Here in the US, we hear reports coming out of Israel voicing frustration with the lack of support for Israel on the part of many American Jews, particularly those on the left. Being an American Gentile, I have always subscribed to the idea that American Jews owe their allegiance to the US, and are free to think whatever they wish about Israel though I ask myself why they would not support the Jewish state, especially since it is the only democracy in a blighted region. I hasten to add that in my experience, American Jews are overwhelmingly loyal to the US, and most support Israel. Go to any pro-Israel rally in the US, and you will see Israeli and American flags flying together, quite in contrast to pro-Palestinian demonstrations, which feature only the Palestinian flag. 

However, as one who supports Israel and detests anti-Semitism, I have been felt frustrated by those Jews who have chosen to link arms with the Palestinians and their cause of wiping out Israel and replacing it with a Palestinian/Muslim nation. 

Having been active on the campus of the University of California at Irvine for 18 years, I am well familiar with groups like Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP), the various chapters of the Muslim Student Association/Union, and Jewish Voice for Peace(JVP). Jewish Voice for Peace, for example, a leftist group made up of misfits and oddballs, makes no bones about what side they are on-and it's not Israel's.

But then we have that sneaky organization called J Street, which blatantly advertises itself as "Pro-Israel, pro-peace", yet supports the Palestinians in every issue or dispute. It is hard to respect a bunch that lies about what they believe in. But that is precisely what they do.

Currently, the official website of J Street is bemoaning the fact that some Republican(s) in Congress are holding up an aid package to the poor, beleaguered Palestinians in the West Bank and Hamas-controlled Gaza. Recent history is full of lessons as to why we in the US should not be giving one dime to the Palestinians in either location. The corrupt Palestinian Authority in the West Bank (with whom we are supposed to work with to bring peace) not only uses United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration (UNRRA)-funded schools to teach children to hate Jews but financially supports the families of killed or imprisoned terrorists. Gaza is under the control of Hamas, a US-designated terror organization that makes no effort to hide its hatred of not just Israel, but Jews in general. And let us not forget that image of Palestinians dancing in the streets on 9-11. So now after this latest round of rocket attacks into Israel, the US taxpayers, most of whom support Israel, are supposed to fork over 75 million dollars in aid to help the Palestinians.

Of course, with the new American administration, under an increasingly senile Joe Biden, it's going to be hard to stop our hard-earned money from being shipped off to the Palestinians to use for whatever corrupt, non-peaceful purposes they choose. So when that money arrives, don't thank me just because I am a taxpayer. You can thank the nice people at J Street. They helped make it happen. All in the name of Israel and peace you know.

Italy Deals With an "Honor Crime"

This past week, Italy was rocked by an instance of "honor killing". An entire Pakistani family in the town of Novellara (Reggio-Emilia Province) allegedly engaged in an agreement to kill the daughter of the family, Saman Abba, after she refused an arranged marriage with her cousin. Saman is missing, and she is presumed dead per the reported confession of her younger brother. A search for her body is underway.

The latest linguistic up and down is the work of Enrico Letta. After days of exhausting silence, in which he must have thought incessantly how to express himself, he has relegated the alleged murder of Saman Abbas to the category of "femicide". "For us, there is the strongest condemnation of what appears to be a brutal femicide," he said yesterday morning to the microphones of "Coffee Break" on La7. "There is no possibility of tolerating these events, I do not question the need to commit everyone that the rules are respected by all."Not one word on the religious matrix of the crime, not one word about Islamic fundamentalism, which pushes parents to organize arranged marriages and punish daughters who rebel. On the left, the PD (Partito Democratico) is not the only one to spin the Italian language not to call by name the Islamic fury, which in Italy, has taken the life of another girl. It is as if everyone is afraid to pronounce the word Islam.  

If we look at the statements of the past days, the embarrassment of the left in the face of the case of the young woman from Novellara appears evident. The first reaction was silence. We have written about this in the past few days. A silence of guilt and complicity. Now, however, pressured by the center-right, the (supporters) of integration at all costs are seen to be forced to take positions. The result has been nothing less than catastrophic. Here are some examples among the Democrats: "If this event is confirmed as femicide, it will be treated with the maximum harshness" (Enrico Letta); "Intolerable that in our country, in the homeland of rights, there exist zones of shadows in which traditional, parallel and bloody  'laws' are applied." (Debora Serracchiani); The event is troubling and no 'cultural' alibi can be given for what in Italy we call in one manner: femicide and hateful violence against women." (Alessandra Moretti); "I feel horror for what is a crime against nature, raised in a patriarchal and obscurist family context more concerned with its own honor than the happiness of their own daughters" (Lia Quartapelle); The condemnation is clear and in no uncertain terms and confirms the justness of our battle to sustain liberty for all women of whatever culture, people, (or) religion." (Stefania Pezzopane).  

Also within the 5 Star Movement (party) and Liberi e Uguale (Leu-Free and Equal), the tones used are similar. Erasmo Palazzotto, for example, lashing out against the laxity of the institutions that do not sufficiently combat Islamic radicalism, spoke of "timidity with which we avoid combatting barbaric, patriarchal practices everywhere and by whomever the perpetrators are". Also, the Grillini parliamentarians, who form part of the group, Pari Opportunita (Equal Opportunity), have denounced the cultural legacies that undermine the emancipation and rights of girls who "live in our country and are perfectly integrated into the Western culture." Same script with the (PD). Almost all (with the exception of Emannuele Fiano) seem, thus, to have some allergy to speaking of Islam. But not just that. Many of them are even intolerant of those who, instead, fight to condemn Islamic fundamentalism. Roberto Calderoli, who has been accused by Pezzopane of caring about women, "just to throw gasoline on the fire of xenophobia and racism to try and create consensus instrumentally". Also the cartoonist, Vauro, speaking with AdnKronos, did not hesitate to lash out against those who, in his opinion, are using the Saman case to "demonize Islam".

The point, however, is not to simply demonize Islam as a religion, but to ensure that certain practices, such as arranged marriages, female genital circumcision, imposition of the veil, are banned from our country. To make this happen, it is first necessary to denounce this barbarity without linguistic paraphrases and then approve ad hoc laws to combat radical Islam.

Netherlands: A Prominent Professor Speaks out on Deportation (Or the Lack Thereof)

Paul Cliteur is a distinguished law professor in the Netherlands (Leiden University) and was a defense witness for Geert Wilders when Wilders was on trial for "hate speech". In this article in the conservative Dagelijkse Standaard, Cliteur writes sarcastically of his country's tolerance for Islamic terrorists. He addresses a recent controversy over the remarks and activism of Moussa Lghoul, (Moussa L.) aka Abou Ilias, a self-proclaimed jihadist in the Netherlands and all-around angry Arab guy. Cliteur wonders why people like Lghoul cannot be deported.

Paul Cliteur: It is a big mystery why dangerous jihadists are not deported from the Netherlands

Leiden professor Paul Cliteur writes about his "patience running out" with the soft policy toward terrorists who are dangerous to the State, who can't be deported. He goes further: "The Dutch system of justice, our government, the country, is endlessly patient. Completely controlled. Constitutional."

"The Hague jihadist, Moussa L. (Lghoul-aka Abou Ilias) was chased away by the police when he wanted to take action in the terror section of the Rotterdam prison because 9 years imprisonment was demanded against two men for preparing a terrorist attack," writes Wout Willemsen in Dagelijkdse Standaard. Moussa had announced that he wanted to die as a martyr and that his "patience was running out," as De Telegraaf reported. (Geert) Wilders tweeted that he had a solution for the problem: Kick Moussa out of the country.

But naturally, that will not happen. And the big puzzle is why things don't happen. Not now. Actually, not for more or less  20 years. Part of the answer lies in the quoted statement from De Telegraaf that his "patience is running out". Whose patience? The patience of the Dutch system of justice? No, because the Dutch justice system, our government, the country, is endlessly patient. Completely controlled. Constitutional. It is about the patience of Moussa. Moussa's patience is running out. Apparently. Moussa has a message. A message that doesn't get enough recognition. Now his patience is running out.

Part of the problem is that too many people, especially people in the Hague, think that somewhere, Moussa might be an itsy-bitsy right. Naturally, he cannot commit terrorist attacks. And when he does, then people say, "naughty naughty", "wrong", "unacceptable". But that he, somewhere, has legitimate claims in order to think the way he thinks, that cannot be ruled out.

Take the statement by Wilders, for example, that Moussa must be deported from the country. That is not particularly fruitful. That doesn't get us any further. Deport. Isn't that impossible? Then to which country? Just saying it only makes things worse. And then come the reactions from the news and the discussion tables of the NPO about the words of Wilders. How little helpful they are. What Moussa says, what he thinks precisely, and why he attaches the consequences to his attacks is not popular.

And that's why the attacks will remain with us. Just like Wilders.

Canada: Driver Kills 4 Members of Muslim Family

On Sunday, a 20-year-old man identified as Nathaniel Veltman drove his vehicle onto the curb of a street in the town of London, Ontario, Canada, killing 4 members of a Pakistani immigrant family and injuring a 5th. The victims, all of the same family, were aged 9-74. The surviving victim is 9 years old. Veltman, who reportedly drove away from the scene and was later arrested, is being charged with four counts of premeditated murder and one count of attempted murder. Police and local authorities are calling this a deliberate and premeditated hate crime directed against Muslims.

If all this is accurate, then we must all condemn this act of violence against an innocent family of victims. That includes those of us who are critics of the Islamic ideology and oppose massive Muslim immigration into the West. It is never right to attack innocent people no matter how many terrorist acts are carried out by Islamic terrorists and jihadists, no matter how much hate against Christians and Jews may be spewed by certain Muslims.

Many, including myself, will point out the hypocrisy of the narrative that is sure to follow about "evil, Islamophobic, white nationalists who are the biggest threat to our security and our democracy" while ignoring all the hate and violence perpetrated daily by Muslims (not all Muslims) against non-Muslims. As I speak, many in the West are pointedly ignoring the wave of anti-Semitism being directed against Jews, primarily by Muslims (again, not all Muslims), not only in the Middle East, but in Europe and North America as well.

But that in no way justifies what happened in Canada Sunday. It is one thing to criticize certain teachings of Islam-especially those that impact non-Muslims. It is one thing to oppose Muslim immigration to the West as being a threat to public safety- which it is. It is one thing to document the horrible acts being carried out daily by certain Muslim migrants in Europe. It is one thing to condemn the excuses and apologia offered up by Western liberals and elites, who want to eliminate all criticism of Islam to the point of lying to their own people and silencing those who disagree with them. This site speaks about all of the above.

But it is quite another to blame innocent individuals for the excesses of others. It is quite another to single out innocent people for violence because they belong to a particular group. It is quite another to commit murder.

I have already seen comments on the internet applauding this act. This is unacceptable. Civilized people do not celebrate barbarity. That is what ISIS does. That is Al Qaeda does. That is what Hamas does. They not only celebrate these kinds of acts when carried out against us, but they also encourage them. Are we to put ourselves down to their level?

If our side is to maintain our credibility and our decency, then we need to vigorously condemn these acts.
