Stanford Reverses Ban on US Flag for CR T-Shirts

Stanford University, no doubt due to bad publicity, has reversed its earlier decision banning the College Republicans from  using a portion of the US flag on their t-shirts.

“This specific policy is part of a broader policy that is appropriately intended to avoid associating the Stanford name/logo with specific political perspectives,” the official added. “We now recognize that the specific policy was framed in an overly restrictive manner.”

Incredible.

What they were saying is that the US flag represents a specific political perspective means that others at Stanford do not share that political view. In other words, some at Stanford would be offended by our flag or the idea that it represents a love of this country. That, according to the warped Stanford thinking, would make some people feel uncomfortable.

And excluded.

Yes, Dear Readers, the sight of that flag would set off trigger warnings and constitute a micro-or even-macro-aggression. Students who are offended by our flag would need counseling.

As for Stanford, a private institution located in Palo Alto, California, which is still in the United States (barely), apparently, the administrators felt that the US flag did not necessarily represent what they stand for.

No doubt, however, public disclosure, as it has so often, came to the rescue. The College Republicans are not dumb.

"The Stanford College Republicans financial officer, John Rice-Cameron, said Tuesday in an interview with The College Fix that he is not satisfied with the denial he received from the trademark office."

So the CR, no doubt, contacted  The College Fix, who in turn, made inquiries with Stanford and put the story out. That's the way to  go.

By the way, I heartily recommend both the the blogs that covered this story. I have occasionally collaborated with both of them. They do yeoman work in exposing the looniness that goes on in our universities.

Maxine Waters, one of California's many embarrassments in Congress, must not be feeling so confident about Robert Mueller's ("Mooler") investigation into Trump/Russian collusion. She is now pinning her hopes on porn star Stormy Daniels' alleged affair with Trump to bring down the President. Trump, for his part, has rightly called Waters "low IQ".

Trump-Kim: I Smell Nobel Peace Prize

I can see the news headlines now: Kim Jong Eun Gets Nobel Peace Prize- Mueller Probe Widens

That's probably what we can expect if (by some miracle), President Trump were to sit down with Kim, explain the facts of life to him, and Kim surrenders his nuclear arsenal and makes peace with South Korea.

The revelation that Kim has expressed a willingness to sit down with Trump has put the born-again cold warriors of the left in an awkward situation. Are they not to supposed to cheer an American president when he makes peace overtures to a hostile regime like North Korea? Today, CNN is sarcastically asking, "What could possibly go wrong?" But where was their cynicism when the hapless ex-secretary of State Madeleine Albright and her boss, Bill Clinton were being played like a fiddle by North Korea? Where was their criticism when President Obama and his hapless secretary of State, John Kerry, were making that disastrous nuclear deal with Iran? Where was the derision from the left when yet another hapless ex-secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, presented the famous reset button to Russia on behalf of Obama? Ditto for when Obama was caught on a hot mic telling Russian president Medvedev to tell Putin that after the re-election, he could be more flexible. Now, with Trump in the White House, the leftist "hawks" are still pinning their hopes on the almost completely discredited idea that Trump and/or his campaign colluded with the Russians to sway the election in Trump's favor. "Better dead than red," the new left now says.

It's a hundred to one shot. But wouldn't it be great if Trump pulled one out of his hat again? Let the Swedes and Norwegians on the Nobel committee snub him and give the prize to Kim. The hypocrisy wouldn't be lost on the American people.

A New Party Is Born in Sweden

Named after Germany's Alternatif fuer Deutschland party, Sweden now has a new party called (Alternativ för Sverige. It is an off-shoot of the conservative Sweden Democrat party, which wants to bring a halt to out of control immigration.

A word of caution: Some people accuse this group of being too nativist even for the Sweden Democrats. I say give them a fair hearing as long as they don't show signs of racism or anti-semitism.

Oh, Those Afghans

Given all the horror stories coming out of Afghanistan (dancing boys, child brides, stonings and all that good stuff) one wonders why there are so many of them running around Europe. But they are and the trail of rape and blood is running deep. Here are just two stories running this week out of Germany and Austria.

In Germany, prosecution is asking for a life sentence for a young Afghan charged with raping and murdering a teenage girl in Freiburg.

But let's be fair: It's not just Afghans. It's Somalis, Moroccans, Pakistanis, Syrians, Iraqis, etc. Somewhere, there must be a common denominator.

Hate Stats in Orange County-and the Netherlands

This week I wrote a critical article on the Orange County Human Relations Commission using their own annual reports on cases of hate crimes/hate incidents. It is my argument that this agency, which receives public funding, has a political agenda and uses statistics that are open to criticism-in that they are too vague.

It seems the Netherlands has a similar issue with agencies that compile "hate" statistics in this case involving Muslims. Last year, in his maiden speech before the Dutch Parliament, Forum for Democracy politician Theo Hiddema outlined his objections to the way hate statistics are compiled in his country.




I have no objections to hate crime statistics being compiled and I wish for such crimes/incidents to cease in the first place. However, weak statistics with insufficient information to back them up are subject to abuse by those who have certain agendas. It is easy to create a chart that says that last year there were x number of crimes or x number of incidents against group a by group b.

And given the circumstances going on in Western Europe I can't help but wonder if all the assaults, rapes and murders being carried out by migrants from the Middle East and Africa against native Europeans are included in these hate crime statistics.

Actually, I really don't wonder. Surely they are not.

Africans Riot in Florence

I don't have a date on this, but it has just been posted. This week, Florence has seen two nights of tension. It looks like the cops played the role of potted plants (which, by the way, didn't turn out so well as the grateful migrants destroyed those in their path. They are reacting to the shooting death of a Senegalese street vendor by an Italian man.

Life on the Italian-French Border

Thousands of illegal migrants in Italy have found their way to the French border on the Mediterranean hoping to get into France. Since France will not accept them, thousands of these migrants, mostly African, are camped out by the border town of Ventimiglia. It is a situation that has been going on for a couple of years now, and for the residents of Ventimiglia, the situation is intolerable. Not surprisingly, the town voted for the center-right party, Lega Nord in the weekends elections.

At any rate, the latest episode in this once picturesque, tranquil town involved rival migrant gangs engaged in rock throwing in the dead of night and damaging residential property in the process. I have translated the below report from Il Giornale.

A real "far west", with cars and houses damaged by  fierce rock-throwing that  exploded between opposing factions of illegal immigrants, occurred last night in Via Tenda, in Ventimiglia, in the Gianchette neighborhood, which faces the riverbed of the Roja river, where for years now an unauthorized tent city  has been built created by those migrants who do not want to go to the Red Cross reception center, to the Roja Park (where they would have free food and lodging), because they fear to be identified by the police.

"We are held hostage by these people - the inhabitants shout - it is a district under siege, where they are the masters". In fact, every day is the scene of robberies, fights and other criminal incidents. The explosion of violence began around twelve thirty am. Some migrants confront each other, for reasons still under investigation by the Carabinieri, and soon the stones start flying, damaging four parked cars and the windows of two houses.

"When they saw me leaning out- says Mauro C. - they grabbed a stone and threw it at me, damaging the window". A situation, therefore, of high tension. Only a few days ago, a group of Libyans had savagely beaten an African, splitting two teeth, to take away his phone and the little money in his pocket. Violence also fueled by alcohol abuse and hunger. Despite the danger to hygiene and public order, no institution has come forward to clear the abusive field inhabited by dozens and dozens of foreigners, including women and children. And it is also in the wake of this situation that the Lega Nord, in Ventimiglia, became the first party, with 29.66 percent of the preferences. Débâcle, however, for the Democratic Party, the party of the mayor of Ventimiglia, Enrico Ioculano, which collapsed at 11.25 percent. The citizens thus wanted to punish the management of the migrant emergency.

Who Hates Who in Orange County?

The Orange County Human Relations Commission/Council (two confusing but inter-connected agencies) continue to be under the public microscope especially by the 5-member Board of Supervisors. Recently, the OCHR Commission (which is publicly-funded-the Council is not)  came under fire for co-sponsoring teacher training workshops on Islam and the Israel-Palestinian issue conducted by among others, the local chapter of Council of American Islamic Relations (CAIR).

CAIR used their 2017 study claiming that Muslim schoolchildren are being bullied in California schools at an alarming rate to make the case that teachers needed some sort of sensitivity training on Islam. The training, also held in the Los Angeles Unified School District, also included "training" on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, naturally from a Palestinian point of view. One might ask why public school teachers in LA and Orange Counties are being trained to accept the Palestinian narrative.

Since there is a link between the CAIR study and the training, it is fair to question why the OCHRC co-sponsored the Orange County training and what their own 2017 statistics in this area reflect. Every year, OCHR Commission puts out a report on hate crimes broken down by victim and perpetrator. The report usually consists of about 8 pages. However, aside from some  anecdotal quotes from some victims. there is no real narrative as to what these crimes or incidents involved.

As yet, OCHRC has yet to issue its 2017 report. Here is their last published report from 2016.

In addition, a colleague of mine (after much effort) was able to obtain this chart from the Commission listing 2016 reported school bullying cases. It includes one reported Muslim victim.

In 2008, I wrote a letter to then Commission head Rusty Kennedy outlining my complaints about anti-semitism at UC Irvine. The letter described a caricature of Ariel Sharon, drawn in the style of old Nazi caricatures of Jews, specifically in Julius Streicher's Der Stuermer, which was posted on the mock "apartheid wall" put up by the Muslim Student Union every May to mark their anti-Israel demonstrations.  In return, I got a letter back from Kennedy telling me about all the great things the OCHRC was a doing and lambasting me for criticizing the UCI administration for their inaction. Here is OCHRC's 2008 report. Tell me if you think it includes that caricature of Sharon. See if you can find it. I can't. In fact, there is no way to tell.

Let me be clear. I do not want to see even one Muslim child being bullied in school because of his or her religion. Bullying unfortunately, is a fact of school life and always has been. When I was a kid, I was bullied, and later engaged in bullying myself to my great shame. But for a child to be bullied because of race, nationality, sexual orientation, or religion adds another ugly element to it. That being said, teachers have always had to deal with bullying. They don't need a questionable organization like CAIR to come in and provide all kinds of propaganda about Islam, and they don't need anybody to train teachers as to the Palestinian (or any other) point of view in a complicated conflict. As a former teacher who received his share of teacher training, it is clear that this type of training to public school teachers is downright improper.

The OCHRC (both Commission and Council) are way too politically oriented and too lacking in tangible results. In the case of the Commission, they do not merit any further public funding.

Afghan Arrested in Vienna in Knife Attacks

An Afghan man is in police custody in Vienna after two separate knife attacks against pedestrians in two separate but nearby sites tonight. Four people are critically wounded.

Shame on California

If anybody needed further proof that California (where I reside) is a renegade state, the past few days have left no doubt. Oakland mayor Libby Schaaf foolishly left herself open to federal charges when she publicly announced that ICE agents were about to launch raids in the Bay area. Then Spoker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) condemned the raids, which netted almost 200 criminals and others who had either been deported and returned or had ignored orders to leave the country. She said they were "unjust and cruel". On the contrary, thanks to Mayor Schaaf, many criminals escaped the net.

While Pelosi is free to mouth her goofy comments and confuse real immigrants with those who are here illegally, Schaaf has committed a clear and documented crime for which she should be punished. She has aided and abetted the ability of illegal aliens to escape the rightful exercise of ICE agents in apprehending them. What better opportunity for the Justice Department (which under Obama was complicit as well) to destroy California's claim to be a sanctuary state for people who cross our borders without bothering to sign the guest book? The 10th Amendment allows the states to have their own laws as long as they don't contravene federal law. In case of conflict, federal law trumps every time (no pun intended). The same is true of California's misguided cannabis legalization. Marijuana is against federal law (Title 21 USC). While you won'r see DEA (my previous employer) busting potheads, they are certainly entitled to take down growing operations and those who sell the product commercially. Under the Obama Justice Department, they were undoubtedly ordered to turn a blind eye. I suspect they are now waiting for a good test case to crack down on.

Of course in both cases, even though federal agencies can enforce the laws in California, they are going to have to deal with the ultra-liberal 9th Circuit Court of Appeals and in the case of Ms Schaaf, no doubt a San Francisco jury. True, Judge William Orrick III (an Obama appointee) of the Northern District of California has affirmed the right of the feds to withhold grants to California over the sanctuary issue (his ruling largely based on the small size of the particular grant), but it's only one battle.

The Justice Department should not be deterred by the fact that they will have to fight this (sanctuary) battle in hostile territory. Ultimately, the US Supreme Court will hear this matter, and the law is plainly not on California's side. The mayor of Oakland has opened the door, and the Justice Department should move to prosecute her. Even if a San Francisco jury acquits her in an act of jury nullification, the country will sit up and take notice.

Tariq Ramadan Remains in Custody in France

Swiss philosopher Tariq Ramadan, who is the grandson of the founder of the Muslim Brotherhood, Hassan al Banna, is in custody in France charged with sexually assaulting two women. There was a protest in Paris this week by a group of Ramadan's supporters demanding his release. Gates of Vienna has the background to the story as well as a short video of the protest. There is an interesting dynamic going on here. You have an internationally known Muslim leader, whom many consider a peaceful reformer and whom others consider a phony moderate, charged with sexual assault-a hot button topic these days all over the world. Sadly, all too many Western feminists refuse to discuss the treatment of Muslim women because they prefer to stand in solidarity with their "oppressed" Muslim brothers and sisters. To raise the issue of how Muslim women are mistreated would be politically incorrect.

I have no opinion on Ramadan's guilt or innocence. I only want to see the truth come out and justice be served.
