University in Wales Names Law School After Hillary Clinton

Swansea University in Wales is naming its law school after Hillary Clinton.

Palestine Legal Tries to Get SJP of UC Irvine off Probation

Below is a letter written by some outfit called Palestine Legal to UC Irvine protesting the placement of Students for Justice in Palestine on two years probation for their May 10 disruption of a pro-Israel event. As previously reported, I attended the event and videotaped the disruption.

And it was a disruption.

You may note if you get through the entire letter, which was probably written by some law student, that Yours Truly is mentioned and described as, "a known agitator".

It strikes me that the person who wrote this went to a whole lot of work to put this thing together just to get the little rascals at SJP off of two years probation. As I have previously reported, when the May 10 incident happened, the SJP chapter at UC Irvine had already been punished with a warning ,letter after they disrupted a pro-Israel event on May 18, 2016. In short,  SJP should consider themselves lucky that they have not been permanently thrown off campus as they should have been. Over and over again they have shown that they do not respect the free speech rights of others.

And yet, this dopey letter talks about the free speech rights of the SJP (to disruprt).

I don't want to spend a lot of time rebutting this letter. That is for UCI to concern themselves with. But a few comments are in order.

"Israeli soldiers traveled to UCI to counter AntiZionism Week2 and spent four days verbally harassing students using racist and sexist language, and physically intimidating them. For example, the soldiers called the students terrorists, told a Jewish student that he is not a real Jew and does not deserve to be Jewish due to his support for Palestinian freedom, made a sexually threatening comment to a female student, shoved a student, and pushed students’ signs during protests, hitting one student in the face."

I was present on two of the four days of SJP activities during anti-Israel week, which comes to UCI every May. That is in addition to the May 10 evening incident which I videotaped. I saw nothing of the kind when I was present. That includes the alleged "shoving" of a young male protester by a female member of the Israeli group (not a reservist). I have reviewed my videotape as well as Palestine Legal's edited videotape. Due to others blocking the camera's view from the two protagonists in question, you can't tell if one shoved the other or whether there was slight incidental contact.

"On their way back to campus, the students decided to attend an event featuring the Israeli
soldiers,
11 which was scheduled for 6-8 p.m. that night.12 They gathered with allies on campus
briefly before attending the soldiers’ speaking event.
13 Together they decided that although they
had missed a majority of the event, they would attend the Q&A portion at the end of the event.14
Prior to the event, students spoke with xxxxxxxxxxx, a legal observer from the UCI Law chapter
of the National Lawyers Guild.
15 xxxxx asked them about their plans, and they explained that
they were going to have a silent demonstration and then ask the soldiers challenging questions.16
Just before entering the room, the students told xxxxx that they did not plan to disrupt and that
they knew there would be student conduct consequences if they did so"

Yes, indeed. As I have previously  pointed out, there is a direct link between SJP and the National Lawyers Guild chapter attached to the UC Irvine Law School. I personally spoke to the young lady in question from NLG on May 11, and she refused to tell me who she had been retained by. It was SJP. Members of the same NLG/UCI Law School "coalition", if you will, were present at the May 18, 2016 disruption demanding that the Jewish students allow the SJP protesters (who were banging on the doors and trying to force their way in according to reports) to enter. And where did they "gather with allies on campus briefly before attending the soldiers' speaking event"? I would bet the farm it was at the Cross Cultural Center, which for years now has been their staging area when disrupting events.

Why is there this working arranging between the UC Irvine Law School and the National Lawyers Guild, a radical legal organization founded in the 1930s as a legal arm of the Communist Party USA? The plain fact is that the UC Irvine Law School has been complicit in disrupting two Jewish events from May  2016 to May 2017. Former Law School Dean Erwin Chemerinsky has never been held accountable for this abuse of his law school. He is now happily ensconced at the UC Berkeley Law School.

"shouting at the student and tried to push her way toward the student.27 In the process, she shoved one student before being restrained by Mr. Dormitorio and others.28 This camerawoman had also been present on campus for the previous three days harassing and threatening students at the mock wall, as described above. Students responded to the assault by clapping and chanting in an effort to provide an outlet other than physical confrontation.29 They left the room after about four minutes, and the event continued for another half an hour, ending at about 8:30. 30 " 

As for the agitator business, all I can say to that is one man's agitator is another man's activist. I am an activist, but what occurred on May 10 is typical of what I do. I attend events and participate in the q and a. UCI campus police and officials will confirm, I am sure, that I always follow the rules and the protocol. I have never disrupted an event. If others go over the edge in reaction to one of my questions, that is on them. They can call me an agitator if they like, but I have never disrupted any events as they do. I have exercised my own First Amendment rights in a legal and peaceful manner.

As for tracking UCI students with whom I disagree, that is a misleading statement. It is true that I have written many uncomplimentary articles about SJP and the UCI Muslim Student Union, in particular their speakers. When I was  a part-time teacher at UCI, I made it a practice not to engage in arguments with students or even to videotape them if at all possible-as opposed to their invited speakers. The exception has been when they engaged in disruptions on the UCI campus, for example, the May 10 disruption and the past two years I(srael) Fest celebrations which they disrupted. Only recently have I posted the name of a student with whom I disagree and that was just a couple of days ago. That involved the woman who was the main participant in the May 10 disruption (leading the chants) and speaking on May 11 during the SJP/MSU anti-Israel events in the afternoon. She is now listed according to the LA Times news article I cross posted as a UCI graduate. Prior to that I had never mentioned her name.

"The Sanctions Are Too Harsh"

This statement is laughable on its face. To repeat, after SJP disrupted a Jewish event on May 18, 2016, they received merely a letter of warning. Now, after the May 10 incident, they receive two years probation. That is too harsh?

I invite the reader to view the videotape of the May 10 incident as well as the video of the following day's protest. Ask whether the chanting on May 10 was "spontaneous". Ask whether the person leading the chants was feeling "vulnerable". After throwing f-bombs at the reservists, she even gave a signal to her followers that it was time to walk out of the room. In viewing the May 10 video, ask whether this was disruption or a legitimate exercise of the SJP's own free speech rights.

I am not an attorney, but even I can tell that this letter is a joke.

Why the French Are Dying

Here is another shining example of how our leaders are failing to protect us. This is the situation in France with the largest Muslim population and attacks happening almost on a regular basis. Whether it is Paris, Nice, Marseilles or Toulouse, the French people can only wait for the next attack and hope a cop or soldier can kill the terrorists before they kill a massive number of people.

Here is the story of a man (believed to be Tunisian) who was arrested 8 separate times in different parts of France. He had no ID and gave 8 different names and DOBs. He was released every time. And the explanation from the police? They don't have the resources to do fingerprint comparisons. They didn't have a supervisor on duty to authorize the man being put in detention. That's right. He is the man who stabbed two women to death at the Marseilles train station last week. For twelve years he lived illegally in France.

This is why people are dying from France to the US to Australia. It is our insane immigration policies. Granted, they are much worse (to the point of being insane) in Western Europe, but we still seem unable to keep these fanatics from entering our countries even though every nation I know of has the sovereign right to exclude anyone they want from entering.

In this case, however, we have two innocent women who are dead because the French cops "didn't have the resources" to do professional fingerprint checks on an arrestee who carried no identification.  Don't tell me that the French police and Europol don't have fingerprint databases.

It is incredible.

The Las Vegas Massacre

There is nothing I can add here to the news of the horrific shooting in Las Vegas last night. The shooter is dead and identified. It is his motive that remains a question. Apparently, ISIS has claimed responsibility claiming that the man converted to Islam months ago. I am treating this with extreme skepticism, and we should let the investigation play out.

UC Irvine's Food Pantry for Starving College Students

Today's LA Times is running a  story on the opening of a new food pantry for hungry students at UC Irvine, which claims that thousands of UCI's students are going hungry everyday.

By the way, the top photo shows Celine Qussiny, listed as a UCI graduate, on the left. I guess graduates are also eligible. Coincidentally, Ms. Qussiny was a major participant last May 10 when the Students for Justice in Palestine  disrupted a pro-Israeli event on campus. The next day, she spoke at an anti-Israel rally, bragged about the previous evening's disruption and the previous year's disruption of another pro-Israeli event while trashing university president Howard  Gillman, whom she referred to derisively as "Howie Gillman".

No hard feelings, I guess.

Of course, we now know that SJP received  the draconian punishment of two years probation for this year's disruption after getting a warning letter for last year's disruption. We don't know what if any individual punishments were handed out since that is covered under state privacy laws.

But there were apparently no hard feelings on the university's part.

Baltimore Sun Op-ed on Unruly Airline Passenger

This week, Anila Daulatzai, a Baltimore professor, was hauled off forcibly from a plane at Baltimore airport when she objected to the presence of dogs on her flight. This editorial is appearing in the Baltimore Sun.

I agree. It is unfortunate that the airline, perhaps fearing that the Council on American Islamic Relations was going to file a lawsuit on Daulatzai's behalf, apologized to her. Instead, it is the  professor who should be apologizing for her outrageous behavior.

NFL: It's Up to the Fans

Last Sunday marked a day when I began trying to sever a 62-year love affair with the Pittsburgh Steelers. I say trying because it is not easy to walk away from a team you have lived and died with since you were ten years old (1955). That said, I am making a serious effort to ignore the NFL as long as this National Anthem nonsense continues. After all, I love my country more than any sport and any team.

In my life, I have traveled to over 60 countries and lived in Germany, Thailand and Italy. I have heard my share of national anthems in many countries, and as is the custom, I have always stood-not out of allegiance but simple respect as was expected. It is a universal custom. When Colin Kaepernick began what has become a trend in the NFL, I wondered what he would do if he were playing in England-as the NFL does. Would he stand for God Save the Queen (as he should) but not for his own anthem?

Last Sunday, the Baltimore Ravens and Jacksonville Jaguars-at least some of them- answered my question. Playing in London, they stood for the British anthem, but several of them took a knee for their own in full view of tens of thousands of British fans. In short, they humiliated their own country on foreign soil.

Lest some of you bring up the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City when Tommie Smith and John Carlos raised their fists on the winners' podium, I would counter that this is not 1968 and this is not the same America as Smith and Carlos lived in in the 1960s. Their form of protest was shocking at the time (they were both sent home), but I can look back on that event with some perspective. Much has changed in America since then. These present-day football players were not around then.

America is not perfect, but I would suggest that this form of protest, which insults the flag and the anthem, is the wrong form. What other national imperfection might merit not standing for our anthem if some knucklehead like Kaepernick decides it is appropriate? Should I stop standing for the anthem because of the corruption I see in our politics? No, of course not.

I recognize that players have the constitutional right to kneel or sit during the playing of the anthem. That is not at issue. Nobody is going to haul them off to jail. I also acknowledge that it is peaceful protest much preferable to engaging in violence. But common folks like me also have the right to speak our mind and voice our disapproval. That is what we are doing whether writing about it, speaking out, or choosing to cash in our tickets and turn off our TVs on Sunday. If the Steelers can't walk out of their locker room when the anthem is being played (with the notable exception of Alejandro Villanueva, a  former Army Ranger with three tours of duty in Afghanistan to his credit), I can find something else to do on Sunday. If the Jacksonville Jaguars and Baltimore Ravens can't stand when their anthem is played on foreign soil, I can switch to the dog shows on Sunday.

As for Mr Kaepernick, he may enjoy the fact that he is becoming a cultural icon, but I would bet that in the long term, he will not go down in history as some latter-day Jackie Robinson. He has chosen to embrace a false narrative (Black Lives Matter) which believes that police are purposely gunning down black men, and that this country has any resemblance to the America of the 1950s or 1960s when it comes to race. We certainly have racial divisions, but this is not a racist country in the sense of say, apartheid South Africa.

Notwithstanding the fact that no NFL team has opted to sign the free agent Kaepnernick, the trend seems to now be that the league and most of the sportscasters are taking the politically correct line of supporting the players. Let them do so. Nobody, however, can force the fans to buy tickets or watch the games on TV. After all, it's a free country.
