Düren (in happier times)

On Sunday, two groups of migrants went after each other in the city of Düren, located near Cologne. It is not known what nationalities the migrants are. Reportedly, the groups attacked each other with axes and baseball bats as horrified residents watched. Two arrests have been made thus far.

The below article from T-Online is translated by Fousesquawk. While this article does not mention that the two groups are migrants, numerous other sources identify them as migrant clans. The article contains a video of the incident (Viewer warning: Graphic).

Apparently with axes and baseball bats

Residents watch as numerous people brutally attack each other on the street. Police arrest two men.

Several people were injured, some seriously, in a mass brawl on Sunday evening. As reported by police, up to 20 people attacked each other near the Bonnerplatz (square) in the center of the city around 18:50.

The police stated that "blunt instruments" were used in the brawl. Social media posts circulating and posted by residents showed the men involved go after each other, apparently with axes and baseball bats. In addition, a man lying on the ground is kicked and punched.

The police reported that a total of 6 people were seriously injured and were taken to nearby clinics. Two other seriously injured people refused treatment. The officers arrested a 22-year-old from  Düren and a 23-year-old from Cologne.

A police spokesman told T-Online that the videos on social media had a great importance for the investigation. They are now attempting to identify more suspects and interview witnesses. As to the background of the violence, the spokesman could initially provide T-Online with no information.
