Netherlands: Israeli Soccer Fans Attacked on Streets of Amsterdam

Dutch premier returning home from Hungary

Geert Wilders: ''I just spoke by phone with Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu and told him of my anger and shame of what happened in Amsterdam."

There is no place for antisemitism and Jew hate in The Netherlands and I will do all I can to protect Jews and stop and expel Islamic radicals.''

-NL Times

Last night in Amsterdam, pro-Palestinians rioted in the streets and attacked Israeli soccer fans who were in town to attend a soccer match between a Dutch team (Ajax Amsterdam) and an Israeli team, (Maccabi Tel Aviv). Several Israelis and Jews were beaten and had to be rescued by police. The Dutch premier, Dick Schoof, has returned home from a visit to Hungary.

The entire nation has been shaken by this turn of events. We will try to get some articles translated from Dutch today including the official statement by Amsterdam's mayor, Femke Halsema.

This RTL (NL) article has a video showing some of the violence (Viewer warning).

*Update: Here is the statement from Mayor Halsema. Hat tip Gates of Vienna and Vlad Tepes for subtitling. Translation by Fousesquawk.

*Update (November 11, 2024): One of my reliable sources in the Netherlands tells me that all of those arrested were before or during the soccer match. No arrests were made after the match when the attacks against Israeli fans occurred.
