Hat tip Algemeiner and Louis D Brandeis Center
I am cross-posting two articles dated March 9 by Algemeiner and the Louis D Brandeis Center for Human Rights Under Law related to a letter sent by 15 Republican senators to the Dept of Education expressing their concern over campus anti-Semitism on university campuses.
I commend these senators for addressing their concerns to the Department of Education Secretary Miguel Cardona over what is a real problem on our university campuses. It is unfortunate that there are no Democrat senators adding their names to what should be a non-partisan issue. In reality, all 100 senators should have signed this letter.
Could it be that the letter specifies where the problems lie, in other words, pro-Palestinian, anti-Israel, Middle East Studies groups, who are, in fact, the leading cause of campus anti-Semitism? While anti-Semitism does exist in groups like neo-Nazis, KKK, and white supremacist groups, these groups have little or no sway within academia. I note that UCLA's Center for Near East Studies is named in the letter and deservedly so in my view.
These universities, especially publicly-funded universities, must have their feet held to the fire. Former President Trump, in fact, attempted to do so, warning them that they risked losing federal funding if they failed to protect their Jewish studies. of course, under President Biden, all that has gone away. Maybe that helps explain why no Democrats signed the letter.
