There is a lot wrong in our universities today. One of the worst is MESA, the Middle East Studies Association, made up of professors in Middle East studies, which has been completely taken over by pan-Arab, anti-West, anti-Israel, and anti-Jewish figures dedicated to the demonization of the Jewish state of Israel and the furtherance of the Palestinian victim narrative. There is little to no diversity of thought with this bunch.
So it is that for what seems like the 100th time, MESA has come out with a vote to call for the academic boycott of Israel. In and of itself, this is an attack on academic freedom-as though supporters of Israel or representatives of Israel should have no voice in academia. What a vicious lie.
My friends at the AMCHA Initiative, an organization founded to fight anti-Semitism in our universities, has condemned the vote and is circulating a petition to the University of California Academic Council for stakeholders in California universities and/or California residents to sign opposing the boycott. I have signed.
You can view AMCHA's report on this matter at the below link. It is written by Tammi Rossman Benjamin.
