Belgium: Six Dead, Over 20 Injured as Car Plows Into Carnival Parade

Strépy-Bracquegnies,

Today in the town of Strépy-Bracquegnies, south of Brussels, a car with two occupants, described as two young men, plowed at high speed into a crowd celebrating Carnival. Six people are dead and more than 20 inured. The two occupants of the car are under arrest. They reportedly have no criminal record, and authorities are saying at this point there is no indication of terrorism. Police deny that a high-speed police car chase was involved in the incident.

We are checking local Belgian news sources for more information.

*Update: The incident apparently happened around 5 am, Sunday morning as people were preparing for a Carnival parade. One of the deceased is a 5-year-old child.

*Update: From Euronews.

*Update: Suspects are identified as cousins, Paolo F. and Nino F. They are both in early 30s.

* Update:(3-22-22): At this stage, it appears not to be a deliberate or terrorist act. It initially appears to be a case of drunk and/or negligent driving (speed). The driver, Paolo F., is still in custody while his cousin has been released from custody.
