Netherlands: Update on Shooting of Dutch Crime Reporter

This week, a well-known crime reporter in the Netherlands, Peter R. de Vries, was shot in the head as he left a studio where he had just been interviewed. Two suspects were arrested shortly thereafter based on witness descriptions of the getaway car and security cameras. Here is what we know about the two suspects.

The  35-year-old suspect, who is identified as a Pole, is publicly identified only as Kamil E. According to the conservative Dutch blog, Geenstijl, he is believed to be Kamil Pawel Egiert (35). Just a few days earlier, on Thursday, he had been arrested for threatening a man with a gun, had to be pepper-sprayed to be taken into custody, and was released two days later. He is believed to be the driver of the getaway car.

The suspected shooter is identified as a local rapper of Antillian origin, Delano G. (21). According to Geen Stijl, he is Delano Geerman.

The residences of both Kamil E. in Mourik and Delano G. of Tiel have been searched by Dutch police.

As of this writing, De Vries is still fighting for his life in a hospital, and suspicion lies with the Moroccan Mafia aka Mocro Maffia as being behind the shooting. The Moroccan Mafia is currently the subject of a massive criminal trial in the Netherlands, known as the Marengo Trial. The main defendant (17 in all) is Radouan Taghi. Though neither of the two suspects is Moroccan, the Moroccan Mafia has links with other ethnic immigrant gangs in the Netherlands.
