Butler University in a Tizzy Over Angela Davis and Those "Zionists"

Hat tip Algemeiner and the Butler Collegian

"Butler University spokesperson Mark Apple denied that Davis’ views were at issue, telling a local newspaper that the event with Davis was in fact postponed — and not cancelled — after the Student Government Association “learned the established processes weren’t followed for this substantial expenditure of student activity fees.”

“Allegations that the event was cancelled due to pressure from students who had concerns about the speaker and the content of the program are completely false,” Apple told The Indianapolis Star Wednesday. “

It's a now all-too-familiar story. Campus groups like Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) invite a speaker like Angela Davis to speak on campus, some students object, and if the event gets postponed-or canceled, it's those "Zionists" again.

That is what is happening at Butler University in Indiana. Angela Davis was invited to speak. The event was postponed or canceled, and Jewish students get the blame. Here is a letter to the editor of the Butler Collegian accusing "Zionists" (code word for Jews) of getting the university to cancel Davis' appearance.

It is good that The Collegian put some kind of disclaimer on this letter, and it is good they are committed to posting all sides of the story. Speaking of all sides of the story, here is an article on the matter by Algemeiner, a Jewish publication.

So the university is stating that they postponed the event over some sort of procedural error. At this point, I don't know what the facts are, and-yes, I support the right of Angela Davis to speak and spread her poison at Butler or anywhere else.

It would be good if some of these people bothered to do some research into Angela Davis and her history before holding her up as some sort of champion. That said, she still has her First Amendment rights. But before people rush off and blame those "Zionist students" for the "racist cancellation" of her speech, they might ask themselves to what extent they are contributing to campus anti-Semitism. And make no mistake: The word, "Zionist" is a dog whistle for Jew.
