The Dutch Anti-Lockdown Riots

Hat tip Gates of Vienna and Vlad Tepes

This past week, many Dutch cities were wracked by riots protesting the government's imposed 9 pm curfew due to the Covid crisis. As my regular readers know, I have translated many Dutch-language articles (I read Dutch) over the past couple of years on this site. So I follow the events in that country closely.

In this link, my friends at Gates of Vienna have posted three videos in connection with the riots. One is by a notorious Muslim fugitive from the Netherlands who celebrates the riots. Another is from a Muslim resident in the country who condemns the rioters, and the third is from the mayor of Rotterdam, who is also a Muslim, and who also condemns the riots. You can view many of the videos at Vlad Tepes Blog here.

The question arises, due to the obvious problems existent in the Netherlands, who exactly is doing the rioting? Is it average Dutch citizens? Is it immigrants, Turks, Moroccans? Is Antifa involved? One report says Pegida-types (anti-Muslim immigration) have been seen participating. In sum, is it the left or the right who is rioting?

The answer seems to be everybody has taken part, left, right, native Dutch, immigrants etc. As you might guess, it is mostly young people.

My own contacts in the Netherlands inform me that while all sides are involved, it is probably 70%-30% on the left. That includes segments of the large Turkish and Moroccan communities that live in the Netherlands. I have no empirical data to back that up, so take it for what it is worth. The bottom line is no one group can be singled out.
