In a significant move, the Italian Parliament has voted not to sign the UN Compact on Migration. What is interesting is that while, Fratelli d'Italia (Brothers of Italy) and Forza Italia parties took the lead in voting against, the Lega Nord (Northern League) and Cinque Stelle (5 Stars) abstained.

My question is why the Northern League and Cinque Stelle parties, who are leading the current government, abstained. The Northern League is the party of Interior Minister Matteo Salvini, who has done more to fight the unrestrained migration into Italy than anyone.
