Napa Police Shooting: California's Sanctuary Policy in Action

On Sunday evening, Napa County, California sheriff's deputy Riley Jarecki made a vehicle check on Javier Hernandez-Morales. During the encounter, the suspect drew a gun and fired at the cop, fortunately missing her. Jarecki pulled her gun and returned fire killing the suspect.

While the incident ended on a positive note, that is not the end of the story. Once again, California's criminal sanctuary policy is under fire. The suspect had been arrested multiple times, had been deported multiple times, but under the new law, which took effect in 2018, ICE retainers were never honored by local police.

Enough is enough. It is time for the federal government to get tough on California's lawless officials. Any federal funding that can be withheld from the state should be withheld. More importantly, the US Justice Department should seek redress in the federal courts against a state law that is in clear contradiction with federal law. Furthermore, those state officials who are thwarting federal law should be prosecuted.

This incident ended the right way. However, we nearly had a dead cop sacrificed on the altar of California's open door policy towards illegal alien criminals.
