Last night, I attended Dennis Prager's talk at UC Irvine, sponsored by the College Republicans. There had been earlier concerns that there might be security threats, and the university had instituted inconvenient rules for the entry and seatuing of attendees. As it turned out, the event went off without any hitches. Attendees were able to check-in, pass through security checkpoints, and watch a live stream of President Trump's state of the union while awaiting the event which was scheduled to start at 7pm. It kicked off at around 7:15 or so. There were about 400 people there (filled to capacity) and overwhelmingly pro-Prager. There were no protests or disruptions.
I won't go into detail on Prager's speech, suffice to say it covered various topics including Israel, anti-semitism, the border, the Ralph Northam controversy, conservatism vs leftistism, the intolerance of the left, university indoctrination, race issues, gender identity, and others. He spoke for about an hour and took questions. Time ran out before he could get to all the questioners, but when you rent a university hall, times are strictly enforced. I myself took my place in line because I wanted him to address the issue of campus anti-semitism at UC and other campuses more in detail, but there were just too many people in line.
Listening to Prager's radio show fairly regularly, I knew going in that he was eloquent. He is really a marvelous speaker who talks off the cuff without referring to notes. I have to believe that if there were any in the audience who disagreed with him, they still had to come away impressed and even reconsidereing their own positions on certain issues. It is precisely college students who need to hear his message.
