Starving Professors: Juan Cole (UMich) Begs for $$$$$ for His Blog
"We need your help!"
University of Michigan Juan Cole runs a blog on the side called "Informed Comment", which is generally devoted to bashing Israel and pumping up the Arab/Muslim world.
Apparently, Cole doesn't get paid enough by the University of Michigan, so he has to run an annual fundraiser for his dopey blog.
https://www.juancole.com/2018/12/informed-fundraiser-independent-journalism.html
Having perused Cole's blog and critique past postings, I frankly don't see what the big expense is. I've been running my own blog since 2007, in which among other things, I translate and sub-title numerous news reports from Europe. I don't get paid for it, nor do I ask for a cent from anybody. I don't pay anybody nor does anybody pay me for the articles I write on my blog. If Cole wants to throw his money away to pay like-minded ideologues to write articles for him, that's his business.
Continuing......
"It is more important than ever not only to support the site if you like its news items but to sign up for delivery of the daily postings by email so you don’t miss even one."
More important than ever? Really? Who needs to sign up for daily postings when I can check it out any time I want?
Then there is this:
"If everyone who appreciates Informed Comment donated even a small amount, we could turn it into a media giant."
And here's the clincher:
"Moreover, giving in itself helps create community and commitment, and is welcome on those grounds alone."
That's right, Juan. Appeal to our sense of civic duty.
Then it gets really shameless.
"All those who contribute to Informed Comment at any level will be included in an occasional private newsletter only for contributors with some additional big picture behind-the-scenes analysis which will be newsletter only.
That's right, Junior Freedom Fighters. You can be included in Juan's inner circle. You might even get secret communiques from Little Orphan Annie, just like Ralphie in "A Christmas Story". (Don't forget to drink your Ovaltine and send Juan money.) And don't forget those all important contribution buttons floating at the top of all the individual post pages. Good grief!
"In 2018, I spent a semester at the Center for Gulf Studies at Qatar University as a visiting professor. It was a great opportunity to interact with colleagues and to learn more firsthand about Gulf society and politics."
Yes, Qatar, a corrupt Muslim Brotherhood supporting nation which is home to Al Jazeera, the famous propaganda outlet. Qatar has no shortage of Western useful idiots (largely academics) who carry water for that despicable nation. Hopefully, Cole had the firsthand opportunity to visit all those soccer stadiums being built by foreign workers in 100 degree, slavelike conditions as Qatar prepares to host the World Cup.
And don't forget the class struggle and Cole's heroic opposition to Trump.
"Fox, Daily Caller, Breitbart are cheerleaders for his racial supremacist policies and determination to punish workers and the middle class by using tax policy to throw even more money at the billionaire class.
"My aim is to be even more comprehensive, and to provide insights on world developments not found elsewhere that challenge lazy conventional wisdom and inside-the-beltway tunnel blindness."
Lazy conventional wisdom? Tunnel blindness?
"Even the supposedly mainstream news organizations have actually hired as commentators people who are still on Trump’s payroll, or have routinely brought sleazy climate change denialists on to lie, or have put on apologists for ripping families apart or tear-gassing children. Facebook cooperated in sinister ways with Russian ad buys for the 2016 presidential campaign and is still and hired a conservative firm to smear businessman George Soros for criticizing their business model. Google News’ “editor’s pick” for me included Daily Caller, which briefly gave the far, far far right Milo Yiannopoulos a perch. Really, Google? How evil is that?"
Cole is an left-wing ideologue who exhibits the same faults he accuses his opponents of.
But wait!
"This year everyone who contributes $100 or more to Informed Comment by Paypal will receive a signed copy of my recent book, Muhammad: Prophet of Peace amid the Clash of Empires."
Here's a tip. Just by reading the title you should know this book isn't worth the recycled paper it is printed on. Save your money on both ends.
If Cole needs more money, maybe he should ask the University of Michigan to assign him a couple of more classes. On second thought......
