Falsus in uno, falsus in omnibus,”

In Congress it isn't hard to find lying hypocrites. They are a dime a dozen. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CN) takes the cake, however. For years, he went around telling people he served in Vietnam, which was a blatant lie. Getting caught in that whopper didn't shame him or cause him to turn over a new leaf. In the Kavanaugh hearings last week, Blumenthal actually had the gall to lecture the judge on telling the truth.

I myself am what is called a Vietnam era veteran. That means I served in the military during the Vietnam war but was never in Vietnam. Whenever I mention my army service, I am careful to note that I served in Germany and give great deference to those who served in Vietnam.

Another interest point is that Blumenthal served in the reserves, which at the time, was considered a way to avoid Vietnam. That is no longer the case as many reservists have served in Afghanistan and Iraq. Remember how George W Bush was castigated for getting into the reserves as opposed to active duty? He was called a draft dodger and a shirker.

Blumenthal's lie was not just a one time misstatement. He repeated the lie many times over the course of years.
