9-11 Memorial? Not at Ripon College

When conservative students from the Young America's Foundation at Wisconsin's Ripon College wanted to display a 9-11 memorial poster, people objected and the college's Bias Team intervened. Here is what happened.

"A conservative student group at a Wisconsin-based college was told their 9/11 “Never Forget” poster violates the school’s bias policy because it exclusively targets Islamic terrorism."

I wonder what would happen if someone wanted to display a memorial to the 19 hijackers. It would probably be approved.

According to local press coverage, the college claims nobody issued an order forbidding the display, just "reached out" to the YAF to tell them some students were uncomfortable. Of course we all know how someone in a position of authority "reaching out" can give one a definite sense that they'd better act accordingly. The situation was a bit muddled, but probably overdone. There is a legitimate question, in my seldom humble opinion, whether the message conveyed was:

A) This act of terrorism was committed by professed Muslims who believed it was their religious duty, or,

B) This is the kind of terrorism that Muslims engage in.

Incidentally, the president of Ripon College was the author of a recent Op-Ed asserting that free speech is for conservatives too. I still have a copy on my bulletin board.
