French police in Nantes shot a killed a known criminal Wednesday who reportedly tried to run over a cop as he was stopped for a traffic stop. The result was riots in one of the city's immigrant neighborhoods.

While we don't know the exact facts pending an investigation, I can tell you as a former DEA agent who has been in such a situation: If you try to run down or strike a cop with your car, expect bullets to come flying.
