Very true. Meanwhile, we have the Vegas shooting and nobody's talking about what we need to do either (whether gun control, dealing with our mental health issues, or a combination of both).
I think that we can put some gun restrictions in place - the type that most Americans favor like waiting periods and background checks. But that can only go so far, and outright bans are just not realistic.
I think that the mental health problem is a more serious threat. A lot of men (let's face it, it's not the ladies who are dealing with this) are having a hard time, and we're not recognizing the symptoms. Much of this is due to some pretty outdated views of what it means "to be a man". This is what needs to be addressed first and foremost, hopefully through real and practical health care reform. We need to be able to recognize the warning signs, and we'll probably weed out a few of these Islamists in the process.
It needs to be cheaper and easier for people to access. Of course, the retort to this is "how will we pay for it?" but it seems to me that we're already paying a pretty heavy price as it is.
Beyond that, it's for smarter minds than me. One thing is for sure, this is a problem that's overwhelmingly exclusive to our country. We need to face the fact of that and look to what other countries are doing correctly.
We also have an abnormaLLY HIGH RATE OF VIOLENT CRIME AMONG SO-CALLED FIRST WORLD COUNTRIES. I think we need to strengthen our drug rehabilitation funding. As to the post in question, we need to seriously screen who enters this country. A stronger border might limit the number of MS-13 gang types who sneak in. Aside from mental health issues, we need to keep bad guys locked up.

Suggestions?

That is reasonable. Healthcare reform though is very vague. Specifics?
