We all knew this was coming. Now that UC Irvine has announced the results of its investigation into the May 10 disruption of a pro-Israel event by Students for Justice in Palestine, here comes the Jewish Federation and its surrogates, Hillel and the Rose Project doing their victory lap. Below is their statement.
Hillel Orange County, Hillel International and the Rose Project of Jewish Federation & Family Services applaud the decision by the University of California, Irvine administration to place the university's Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) chapter on probation for two years. The decision follows a three-month investigation into SJP’s disruption of an on-campus event in May 2017 sponsored by the student organization, Students Supporting Israel. That was the second event with Israel content that SJP disrupted within a year. Moreover, its leadership is on record stating that it had planned to continue to disrupt events with which it disagrees and to disregard university policy and directives. SJP’s behavior has repeatedly violated campus codes of conduct and First Amendment rights for the purpose of creating an atmosphere on campus that is divisive and inhibits learning, growth and the free exchange of ideas. The university must enforce its disciplinary action in the face of these violations of campus policy and values.
Hillel and the Rose Project have and will continue to work with the university to ensure the safety and security of Jewish students on campus and their ability to assemble without disruption or the fear of harassment or intimidation.

First of all, there is no victory to celebrate here. Yes, SJP has been found guilty, but there is no real punishment, just two years probation. Big deal.
Secondly, the Federation, Hillel and the Rose Project had nothing to do with this matter. They were not present at the event in question. Nor did they provide any information or evidence to show what SJP did. They were, as they always are, irrelevant.
Of course, as they always do, they come out when it's all said and done and try to imply that they had anything to do with it. It is shameful.

Hillel/Jewish Federation of the OC should be ashamed of their braggadocio regarding the less than satisfactory discipline of the SJP. They are absent from events that result in conflict and have not supported more active Jewish and non-Jewish community members who actively attend, record and write about the SJP violations of UCI codes and of Constitutional rights of Jewish and conservative speakers supporting Israel. Shame on them for taking credit.
