Dear (name deleted)
Thank you for contacting me about the Muslim Brotherhood. I appreciate you taking the time to write, and I welcome the opportunity to provide my views on this organization.
The Muslim Brotherhood is an Islamist political and social organization that has its roots in Egypt, but has a presence in many countries throughout the Middle East. While some individuals associated with the Muslim Brotherhood have been involved in acts of violence in the past, the Brotherhood has not been designated as a Foreign Terrorist Organization by the U.S. Department of State and the Executive Branch has publically stated that there is no evidence that the organization has departed from its commitment to non-violence.
Like many Americans, I had concerns about how President Mohamed Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood governed Egypt. While the organization stated that it was committed to a democratic process in Egypt, its rule was far from inclusive. As you may know, President Morsi was removed from power in July 2013, and the Egyptian government declared the Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist organization in December of that year. An Egyptian court also banned the Brotherhood’s political wing, the Freedom and Justice Party, in July 2014.
I understand that you support congressional action to direct the State Department to designate the Muslim Brotherhood a Foreign Terrorist Organization. Please be assured that, as a member of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, I will keep your concerns in mind should I have the opportunity to vote on this or similar legislation, and as I continue to closely follow events in Egypt.
Again, thank you for sharing your concerns with me. If you have any additional questions or comments, please feel welcome to contact my Washington, D.C. office at (202) 224-3841.

"Islamist social and political organization"
Note that Feinstein uses the term, "Islamist" to describe the MB. That term refers to those Muslims who seek to impose Islam on the rest of humanity and supplant all other religious beliefs. Of course, some Islamists prefer to do so with non-violent means. However, Feinstein apparently forgets that most Islamic terrorist organizations like Al Qaeda and Hamas were spawned by the MB. For example, the current leader of Al Qaeda, Eyman al Zawahiri, an Egyptian, came out of the MB. In addition, the MB's spiritual mentor, Yusuf al Qaradawi, openly advocates killing of Israelis and expresses his wish to die in battle against the infidels. I could go on and on, but you get the idea. Whatever "commitment" to non violence the MB has expressed is pure PR.
