Yesterday, I was driving through Aliso Viejo in Orange County when I noticed some police activity on the opposite side of the road. Cars were being waved to the curb by cops for smog checks. Since I was going in the opposite direction and had had my smog check done at a licensed dealer last year, it didn't concern me. However, I started to think. Why is it that we can't stop and detain illegal aliens in this country? Why is it that we cannot profile Muslims at airports? Why is it that we cannot ask for ID at polling stations? Yet, a cop can step out in the street and wave me over for a smog check.
Just asking.
